Saw this interesting video... incident happened yesterday. This is kinda what we have to face on a daily basis in South Africa. Got held up outside my own place the first day I moved in. Still traumatized. Anyone here ever been a victim?
In answer to the OP, got mugged by a kid with a Stanley knife once but just got aggressive and he ran home, I then got aggressive with his Dad. Got mugged in Nottingham by 2 blokes in my way home one night, put up a fight but they beat me up and took my wallet.
Depends where you live. Some areas are safer than others. Its definitely not as bleak as the media portrays it, but its certainly a lot worse than a lot of other countries. I have grown up in those kinds of areas all my life so its normality here. It's almost ridiculous when you can go to another country and not have to look over your shoulder every time you step outside. We definitely live in a fearful society and the ineffectiveness of law enforcement to do anything about that only makes it worse. The people that are affected most are the working and middle classes of course, if you have money, you can afford to live in a safer area or a gated community. But something is messed up when people are living like that.
Got held up by 6 colored youths carrying guns, they physically assaulted me and stole a bag I was carrying. Mom and sister were held up at gunpoint while walking in the street. Dad was hijacked and shot in our driveway. Had several smaller incidents, cars broken into at night, petty theft, a brick through a window, attempted break-ins, some visitor's car interfered with, cars stolen, etc. Fun times.
