Just like to say well done to Crewe on reaching the play of finals, with a lot of players who are local lads. Reminds me of the Stoke team of the 70s. i would love to see more proper Stokies playing for us, we have got the new Academy but i don't think we will see any one for a long time from there in the first team.If they are good enough at 17 play them in the first team. I think the Academy is just one big health spar for our, over pampered so called stars.
To be fair, Crewe are producing league 1 or 2 players who are playing their way through the leagues, it's harder for us to push younger players into our first team. Even so, their academy is much more productive, we should have more youth players and be loaning them out, or atleast using them in cup matches, otherwise they'll never make it.
Liverpool have just brought a 16 old from crewe, and man utd, plus everton are looking at nick Powell,we had 2 from there, sold one for million, and we never saw him,Ben marshall. The other he will be given away.
Exactly Smither's I listened to the game last night and although Crewe gave the ball away at times. Over all, they played brilliantly. One 17 years old and two or three, 18?? They are ALL taught to PASS(without fear) and run at players. David Platt is one player who did make it P.P. Rob Hulse Robbie Savage, yeah OK he wasn't that good but, he played at the highest level. There are a few others I can't of but they all went on to do very well. One is currently playing for Reading I think? HOW we could do with coaching like that at SCFC. The shame is that Crewe had to sell their really good player's. We also had two young Crewe player's Pulis signed Matthew Lund and ? Well done Crewe Alex, I wish them luck in the final too!
Potts, congratulations to you and your wife. As far as us picking players up from the Alex...... what about the great servant to Stoke, John Mahoney a midfielder!! Is there anyone else we have had from Crewe over the years?
There was one we should of had - Dean Ashton. Norwich, West Ham and then smashed his ankle up on England duty - never played again!

The only thing I will say is that the bigger clubs can afford to put these sort of sums into young talent, where we generally are looking for someone already proven at this level!
