Crewe did the double over Cheltenham in the league, winning 1-0 home and away.

    2. They have scored in their last 18 games and haven't lost any of them (8 wins, 10 draws). That run saw them creep from 12th place in the table into the final play off spot, and in the SF they turned over Southend who had finished 11 points above them in the league.

    3. They are a good technical side and generally dominate possession in games, so the decent pitch at Wembley will be in their favour.

    4. Cheltenham were comfortable winners over two legs against Torquay and generally finished a season in which they greatly exceeded expectations in good form.

    5. However they can have problems in front of goal. They failed to score in 5 consecutive matches in March and have fired blanks twice since, conceding in 5 of their last 6.

IN SUM - A tricky game to call, but Crewe have momentum and the confidence accumulated from beating their opponents recently, a long unbeaten run and turning over the promotion favourites in the SF.

Will try and catch this game. Hopefully it will be better than yesterday's. Saw some of the Crewe semi final and impressed with there players like Powell & Leitch-Smith. I do think the weather may effect their high tempo style so I'm going for Cheltenham.

Didn't they used to put a couple of play-offs on the same day at Wembley. Don't remember there being one a day as this year. Mind you the logistics of changing the crowd would be unbearable.

Can I say how pleased I am that lamballana has at last been given this rare chance to start a thread?

The play offs used to take place over the bank holiday weekend. League 2 Saturday, league 1 Sunday and championship Monday. Thought that was always good.

They should finish with the Championship, not the reverse order. Makes sense and would mess up West Ham's holiday plans...what's not to like!

Crewe for me. They roll the ball around so nicely. I'd tip them for back-to-back promotions if they seal this one, as they'll have some nice spending money when they sell Powell. (To us ;))

Nick Powell is such a great player, for his age he is a star, will be great in the future.

Sounds like he has a touch of Le Tiss about him.

When he played against Gillingham he was still 17 and he was the best player I had seen in League 2 I think, got 2 goals and set up 1 I think, one of them was goal of the season, he is such a quality player and I have to say he is the sort of player that may ruin the day for your team but you look at and think, **** he is class, we have no chance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXAH5KKGZzc Stunning stunning strike! He's 18 that lad. If united don't go in we HAVE too.

Mods your welcome to stick this in the Cheltenham vs Crewe thread or the transfers thread.

Just thought i'd give it its 5-10 minutes of glory with its own thread!

We were supposed to be after him in the first place. However, we won't compete with the price United are rumoured to have offered.

Don't know what price ManU are offering, but we mustn't always assume we'll be outbid. Sometimes we may decide a player is worth more to us than the other team do, especially for a player that we intend for our first team and the other team may only see as a player worth a risk.

£4m-£6m are the figures I have seen! I don't think we would pay that. I really don't.

    I would - he's a class player.

No-one thought Arsenal would pay £10m for Chamberlain... We got £12-15m and now that looks like a bargain!

I guess so. I'm just unsure as to whether now is an appropriate time to be gambling on a kid from L2, when we need to avoid relegation.

I could be totally wrong here, but I'd be cautious, especially at spending that kind of money.

Several have moaned about spending £6m or more than that on a proven striker such as Rodriguez or Hooper, let alone a young kid!
