Hull City under-21s finish year with disappointing Crewe defeat please log in to view this image Hull City's under-21s went down to a disappointing loss in the Professional Development League 2 as Crewe Alexandra secured a 2-1 success. Despite picking up just one win in their last seven games, the hosts strolled to victory on Monday despite being reduced to ten men in the contest. Prior to the game, the young Tigers were second in the division behind Huddersfield Town and were in confident mood, following a 5-0 thrashing of Coventry City last time out. However, there was to be no repeat of that performance yesterday afternoon as the Railwaymen were comfortable winners. It was only the Tigers' second defeat of the season, and they now have a Christmas break before returning to action in a fortnight when they travel to Huddersfield. Crewe's Brad Inman struck five minutes before half-time, racing onto Ryan Wintle's through ball before composing himself and slotting past the keeper. The Tigers drew level on the hour mark after a dangerous cross bounced off the head of an unfortunate Alex defender and into the top corner for an own goal. Just four minutes later, and Crewe were reduced to ten men when George Cooper was dismissed for dissent. But in the 68th minute, Crewe restored their advantage, with Joe Howell volleying in Charlie Kirk's deep corner from inside the six-yard-box. Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Tombides both had opportunities to secure a draw, but it wasn't to be for Tony Pennock's Tigers outfit.
