Ford Heath; the middle of nowhere
Excellent victory. Much needed, and it sees us move out of the drop zone on goals scored, with Pompey's decline continuing. If they get hit by a ten-point deduction, things could get messy for them, whilst Oldham continue their losing habit and Walsall extended their winless run.

Overall, I thought we matched them. Possession was equally split, with Richards back to his best alongside Summerfield helping to shackle their three man midfield including one excellent Arsenal loanee. We had more attempts on goal, and their keeper had to make the best save of the game to keep out Morgan.

We started very brightly, playing some nice stuff for the first 5 minutes before they asserted control of it. From 20 to 35 minutes in, it was pretty even and we then dominated the rest. Excellent work from Morgan and a bullet header from Summerfield put us in front.

The defence was excellent. Untroubled in the first half, and Jacobson nullified the dangerous Pogba very well. There were still a few mistakes, but Wright, Richards, Jones and Morgan all had decent games after being criticized plenty this season. The atmosphere was good, crowd a big one and the Crewe fans pretty quiet.

There were still a few errors and we looked shaky for the final 20 minutes, but it was a vital platform and a very good clean sheet against a thoroughly decent team. Franchise will pose an even tougher question, but we are in an improved position now.

Phew that was a close call. We could have signed someone like Pogba from the BSP who was worse than useless. In Murphy they had one of the best midfielders to frequent the GM. Fortune favoured us on a few occasions. They should have had a nailed on penalty when Dalla Valle was tripped and the referee's view was obscured and he desperately sought help from his lino who gave nothing. A couple of almost calamitous mistakes by Jones and Richards almost cost us and on another day would have.

We always worked hard and Morgan/Rodgers appeared to partner well together although the latter offered no threat on goal. Wright was the renaissance kid in the first half but I just wish he would not try to be too clever with his shooting. Bending the ball inside the far post is all well and good if it comes off but all too frequently with him it ends in a timid shot almost at the keeper. Summerfield again was the pick of the midfield. Jacobson was more like his old self but not error free. My first look at Bennett who was competent but appears to be carrying too much weight.

MOM-The Fresh Ego Kid

The players get into their right positions - hey presto <wizard> and we win a game. Jacobson LB seemed good although his orthpeadic boot needs adjustment as he kicked too many across into the CM which brough problems. Wright put in a good shift and attempted to do also perform some of his weaker areas too, good to see him shooting.

I agree with pretty much all that was said - it was a tight match against an in-form Crewe side but we played with much more intensiy than of late and actually had a couple of decent attacks in the first five minutes. Our passing was much better with some encouraging signs from Morgan and Rodgers that they could form a decent partnership.
Jacobson had a steady game and so did Jones until the last twenty minutes when he was under more presssure and a few errors crept in. Bennett did not look match fit and while not entirely convincing perhaps there is better to come from him. I was pleased to see Wright have a better game and put in some decent passes though his lack of strength on the ball could have cost us dearly at times.
I know everyone has been down lately after some poor efforts but I continue to trust GT to get us out of this mess with a better run of form until January and a few decent signings then. The table suddenly looks a whole lot better even after just one win.

good win today and we played some intelligent football, without over committing ourselves, Morgan had a pretty good game, but to move further up the table we need to see him scoring more goals ...Summerfield was my man of the match just pipping Weale who made some good late saves, confidence wise this win is going to help pull ourselves out of the the drop zone, and im going to be looking to follow this win up against the dons, still to many mistakes being made at the back, so it was good luck the Crewe forward were misfiring a bit, but overhaul a good steady performance....oh and i think we can safely send Helan and Procter back to their respected clubs

great to see shrews goal on the league show this morning. great cross from our marv, lovely finish from summerfield. even nicer to see grahams happy smiling face after the game. crewe should have equalised but we had the rub of the green.

the shrews are still a bit fragile but confidence lifted is every thing. good luck on tuesday, pack the defence and hope for a lucky break
