I don't see too many criticisms or objections to the performance by the Gills against Crewe ( other than from the manager ). So has it come to the point where our membership have become apathetic about our performance - let alone the result ? Shall I say what I think (whilst my brain is not fully in gear at this time of the morning) - that we're quite happy that the victory for Crewe lifted them out of the bottom four, whilst Carlisle dropped into those places. Why because if Carlise are relegated, travelling to Crewe in L1 next season will be a much shorter journey ! Of course that is assuming that we are not in L2 with Carlisle - there is absolutely NO guarantee that we won't struggle to avoid relegation if we repeat yesterday's performance. I am genuinely concerned that we will find it hard to get the points required for L1 safety even if we play reasonably well. And the opponents in our remaining games are of a higher quality than Crewe ! Please don't quote that wins against Tranmere and Shrewsbury should guarantee our L1 status - because YOU would have said the same thing about Crewe's game at 3pm yesterday. There wasn't a lot to choose between the sides yesterday ( other than the result ) -but, yet again we allowed the opposition too much time and space on the ball and were far too slow in closing them down. Crewe were more hungry for the challenge and deserved their win. And talk about deserving awards - Hewitt m.o.m ????? what was in those corporate drinks ? I thought that Weston had a much better performance. Carlisle or Crewe - doesn't matter as long it's in L1 even if Cambridge is closer !
