17-year-old is one of the three transfer bids Ipswich Town have made over the last few days. Looks good if any thing comes of it.

i would be literally astonished if you managed to sign him!! the whole of the premier league are tracking him and the talk is the fee would be close to £4m, maybe even more as crewe can pretty much demand what they want, such is his potential, so good luck with that one...

A bit difficult when he is out of contract in the summer...! Being linked and putting in a firm offer are two different things. If the lad wants to continue his football education in a higher Division with a chance of getting first team football he would be mad to turn us down.

Just to add - the only way he will continue his football education (if he joins), is when he leaves you. The way you're treating your youngsters is frankly laughable.

    sorry warky, agree with carra.

powell is rated as one of the top, top prospects in england. no way will he go to ipswich. i know norwich have had scouts watching him this season too but we are hardly alone in that! he could effectively have his pick of any club in england, so the chances of him thinking, 'yeah, i'll go to ipswich - they seem like the right place for me' is pretty remote.

who knows, maybe i'll be wrong but i very much doubt it!

Well.... It is very unlikely but may I give you just some other examples:

Dean Bowditch - wanted by Arsenal etc....... then went off the ball
Victor Moses - Arsenal, United and Barca.... then went off to Wigan

I'm sure there are plenty more can't be arsed to do any research, not without Wikipedia anyway..

I imagine he'll go somewhere better than us but atleast we are interested in signing some promising young players

totally true king, i'm not saying its impossible, i'm saying its extremely unlikely. can't say i've seen too much of him other than on tv for england u17s and he looked very capable, but even then, there is no way to guarantee he will fulfil his early promise, so whoever does eventually get him is taking a risk <ok>

Reports coming out of Crewe that they have rejected a £2 mil bid from Ipswich. **** me gently, £2 frigging Million for a 17 year old league 2 player!! Why not put that towards getting a new defence!!

is that true spanish? as i said above, crewe seemed to think they would turn down offers close to £4m from premier league clubs when they looked as though they would come calling earlier this season so £2m must have been laughed off big time. as you say, its another bizarre move when the money could be spent on better areas and on players who could make a difference right now!

you have a very strange manager...

Crewe are in a financial hole.

They won't be able to turn down £ 2 mill for a player out of contract in the summer. No chance. Under a tribunal, they would get around £600K uptop with add ons.

    Morning all.
I cant see that he wont come but it will depend where his priorities lie. He can probably go for prestige and better wages to one of the top EPL clubs or he could come here, hopefully further his development by playing and if he does live up to the hype still be in the premiership by the age of 21. We are probably one of the few clubs that have the finances to pull of the deal but are still small enough to allow him to fit straight into the first team set up.
Not saying its likely but wouldnt rule it out either.

sorry westlake, its not true. crewe, like any club, have financial issues but they are in no threat and have no need to sell anybody if they wish not to. its also nonsense that his contract expires this summer - it runs until 2014 <ok>

The interest from Arsenal is not 'reported' interest, Dario Gradi confirmed back in June 2010 that David Dein asked what his price was and got told to bugger off. I would imagine if they are now willing to sell it would alert Arsenal and they would be sniffing around like vultures.

Hope we're not wasting too much time on this one.

i'd be surprised if david dein was involved - he left arsenal in about 2007!

if you got powell it would be a real coup although i'm not quite sure how he will help you stay up. its potential you'd be buying rather than current ability by the looks of things.

your manager seems to be putting in token bids for players rather than really going for a target and making sure he gets his man. the two lads from pompey, who both appear to be good players by the way, are unlikely to be sold until their ownership problems are solved which might not be for some time, so you could be cutting it pretty close to the transfer deadline to bring players in! i'm interested to see who you do eventually bring in though - i was expecting big davie weir ;)

From the sublime to the bleeding ridiculous!

Why the **** are we bidding £2 Million for a 17 year old unproven kid! If we have that sort of money to chuck around then why aren't we putting in a big offer for Billy Sharpe FFS! There are plenty of proven young players in the lower leagues for us to go for like Matt Tubbs, McFadzen, Matt Ritchie, Ryan Hall, Kane Ferdinand, Matt Lowton the list goes on. We seem to be goinmg from one extreme to the other. Stop wasting time Jewell and get the players in that we desperately need!
