Credit to the old guard, who have received a lot of stick on here recently for being 'miles past it' (JT), 'should be bounced out of the club straightaway' (Cech), and Frank (I include myself among his gentler critics).

They sure showed us last night. The first two were superb ... And even Frank was almost beyond reproach supplying some great free kicks and work rate.

Despite their faults and the better options that are out there: maybe we should be slower in writing off these legends in the future!!

You can never have enough experience or leadership. We get rid of too much of this at once then we'll become Arsenal.

No reason why Cech and JT can't continue in the first team next season and beyond, they have been very good all year. Probably the final year for Lamps, still has something to offer but defensive midfield is not his best position and can't get up and down like he used to. Still, not a bad showing last night and a C.L win would be a fitting send off for some of our legends (Ash included)

Ashley will have a big role to play in the semi-final first leg.

Only position that needs sorting is who partners Luiz. Don't think Hazard will be fit in time.

Can't disagree, hope Hazard is fit but not at the expense of a further lay off.

I agree with the OP's point except to say , now is the time to bring back Courtois from Atletico, and allow him to play ahead of Petr!

Since all your quotes are mine, here's a response. Iv'e already pointed out that Cech had a good game, and not before time. Lamps was not terribly effective in a first half where we were all disjointed, but gave all he had, and was subbed. JT did play well, Cahill was better.
Strange that Luiz, our best, doesn't get a mention? Nor Willian, or Schurrle or Azpi? Seems all you are trying to do is confirm your opinion as the right one. Have no problem with older players as long as they are pulling their weight.
I haven't written off JT as you suggest,I posted he will lead next season, but become less influential and play less as has happened to Lamps and every other player who ages.
I think Cech will be swapped for Courtois as part payment for Costa, not the other way round. After a piss poor season, not just by his standards, but by any standards, why would anyone be suprised by this??? Lamps will leave with everyones everlasting gratitude.
Those are my opinions, you're welcome to yours, but you won't change mine. And I agree fully that the Old Guard all did well, but so did the New Guard.

shouldn't get overly sentinmental about Cech. we replaced Cudicini for Cech, and if we end up replacing Cech for Courtois, then so be it. what i will find difficult to accept is if Courtois is not given a chance to compete directly with Cech for the no1.

Agree. Time to take Courtois maybe. But Cech has been pretty good this season, maybe not outstanding.

Writing him off after a couple of bad performances is for tabloids and Talksport
