Im prepared to be shot down here, and told im stupid, but hey.. what the hell its all about opinions isn't it..

If you could come 1st or 2nd in the Championship and take half the Promotion Money, but stay in the Championship and keep enjoying winning Football would you take it??

then when you win the league again, decide to go up maybe the following year, go up as normal...

the winning place could be passed down to another Club in 3rd, 4th etc

only an Idea, so dont pull me to bits on it :)

there id prob a really good reason why this could never work and i haven't thought about it

Part of the winning promotion is the kudos of having big teams visit the KC every week, and with a full house. What happens if you didn't win the league again? And to think you spurned your one and only chance.

There's a few around who would rather enjoy the Championship and stay out of the PL; more games, wins and enjoyment at less cost. I can see their view, but don't share it. I am sure that on a quiet(er) day, some will delve deeper into your idea - be interesting to see what reaction you get; as you know, it can't get daftest post of the year, as you already have that honour! <laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh>

well that's the chance you take

what im trying to say is I enjoy Championship football miles better than Premier League, If you look at Wigan etc, they never have anything to look forward too apart from survival, you can only play the big clubs so many times before the novelty wears off

I would rather be promoted to the Prem and try to become a decent mid-table side <ok>

If you look at what PL football did to us the first time then it makes you wonder why we bother, Granted we were run by clowns, but Whats to say that if we get to the PL under the Allams we wont end up in the same situation?, to Survive and make a decent go of the PL you either need a very good squad or a lot of money, I'm not sure we've got either. I do also wonder what the point of entering a league we arent going to win is?, But overall I think promotion to PL is a good thing, To quote Mr Duffman 'It gives us a bigger commercial footprint'. And if run properly It could be excellent for the club.

However I think one way of making the PL fairer for newcomers and giving the mid teams a chance of a higher league finish would be to give the larger share of money (usually given to the winner) to the team that just avoids relegation and so on, It means the top teams have more of a challenge and the lower teams have a boost, That said it would be hard to implement it and force teams to do their best.

Its all part of progression, we need promotion for the money which comes with it. Once we are there the money should be invested correctly in the clubs infrastructure. We may well yo-yo, but eventually the foundations should be set. WBA are doing well now.

The cost of getting in to the Prem League have to be taken into account !
How many lower league clubs have bottomless pockets ?

Understandably the owners would want a return on their investment (who wouldn't ?) So the money we receive for being promoted,
would help their cause, So limited cash would be available to strengthen for staying up there !

I look at Stoke who went up with us in 2008 and feel if we had had better owners than Bartlett and Duffen. we could still have been there.

Hope I'm right in thinking that the Allam family are in a class, way above those idiots.

It's all about the glory of being in the top league and staying in it, look at how much respect Stoke get from pundits now- well that could have been us if we'd had somebody to steady the ship in charge instead of Mr Excitable and co. No matter how much Brownie did for us it was a miracle we survived the first season and then the wheels came off, hate to say it but wish we'd had a dour defensive Pulis or Pearson in charge to keep us in the top flight.

We won't **** it up under the Allams ... IF we manage to go up there's no reason at all that step by step Hull City could end up a mid table premier league team.. After that who knows !

The reality is that this may happen at some point if the PL dominants get their way. The Championship may be as far as clubs could progress to. There would be no relegation from the PL. once there you stay there. Clubs like city will not met the demands. It could even be that the top ten move out of the PL and into a super European or World club league. Scary

As there's currently at least three leagues in the EPL it would be more competitive if it was split into two halves with promotion / relegation (say 4 up 4 down) between the two in January. The money could still be distributed as it is now (including parachute payments) and at the end of the season 3 teams could be relegated to the Championship as normal. The following season the surviving teams would start in the same half they finished the previous season.

the problem that nobody has mentioned is the the players wouldn't want to stay at a club that didn't want to play at the higher level. the pl teams would come for the better ones and they wouldn't be adequately replaced. we've often seen teams that haunt the play-off regions for maybe 4 or 5 years without quite making it, then they fall away and don't challenge again for years.

Another daft idea is that if promotion to PL is acheived, forcing a lot of clubs to spend lots of money and put pressures on themselves etc. Why not give the new lads say a ten points start for their 1st season. They would then have a decent chance of staying without spending as much money etc , have a full season of PL teams visiting their grounds with full grounds, so a good income for possibly two seasons. This in turn would build a more stable fan base (ie plastic etc), which would sell more season passes for their 2nd season when the real work of staying up would start.
