CRAWLEY v PORTSMOUTH League One – 9 September 2012 Link to BBC Preview: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19454700 Last meeting at Crawley N/A Who are Ya? (Information courtesy of Wikipedia) Formed in 1896, Crawley Town began life in the West Sussex League where they remained for five years before transferring to the Mid-Sussex League, which they won at the 2nd attempt. They entered the Sussex County League in 1951 before switching again 5 years later to the Metropolitan League. They turned semi-professional in 1962 and the following year they joined Division One of the Southern League. In 1969 they were promoted to Premier Division of the Southern League but were relegated back the following season. They regained promotion in 1984. They were in the Southern League Premier Division for 20 years, before finally winning the title in 2004. This was the season before the introduction of the Conference North and South so they were promoted straight into the Conference National. 2010-11 was an amazing season for Crawley. They reached the FA Cup 5th Round, before going down 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Only the cross-bar denied them an equalizer in the 93rd minute! To cap off the season they won the Conference at a canter, finishing 15 points clear of runners up AFC Wimbledon. Last season was a bit deja-vu as they once again won promotion and reached the 5th Round of the FA Cup. Crawley 4/5 Pompey 13/5 Draw 5/2 Mystic Devo After two draws, Pompey have suffered two defeats; at Carlisle and at home to Oldham. The players will be very disappointed that they couldn’t turn their vast possession share into three points against the latics. One wonders when Crawley will reach the top of the crest of their wave. Having won promotion from the Conference and League Two in the past two seasons, they have started League One with three wins in their first four games. You can’t doubt the effort Pompey’s boys are putting in, but I think they will be hard pushed to take away much from the side’s first visit to the Broadfield Stadium. Devo reckons: Crawley 1-0 Pompey
I expect that a fair few Pompey fans will turn out for this one, straight connection SWT. I do hope it passes off safely.
As it is the international break .. do we have any internationals in our side ?? The only one I can see is Mustapha Dumbuya, who plays regularly for Sierra Leone Please tell me if you know any others, I'm just curious to find out! ..
6.50am according to my National rail phone app, Dev. Calling at Fratton Hilsea (get on there at 6.56 SB3, it won't be a minute too late) Bedhampton Havant Warblington Emsworth Southbourne (We're in God's own here) Nutbourne Bosham (that's Boz ham) Fishbourne Chi Barnham Horsham Crawley 8.16 I wonder why it starts out as a slow train, then changes in to a fast one after Chichester?
I'm sure I read somewhere that the tickets for this one are already sold out. Pity because it is only an hour away for me. And........ for this one, if he is back, we will need HH to show the new lads how it's done.
That doesn't bode well Hermy. I had a feeling that if any match was going to attract the troublemakers, this would be it.
Why do you fear trouble, meowth ? Crawley don't have a history of troublemakers supporting them do they ? As long as Pompey win, our fans should be happy
Police are swarming this one WD. Mainly due to the sheer amount of Pompey turning up. When the ticket info first got published it was said that it's a all ticket affair on police advise. Doesn't nessacerily mean there will be trouble. More precaution IMO.
There has been a pattern of trouble in recent years, where Pompey play a game in or around South/West London and I know Crawley is not London by any stretch, but it's games that are easy to get to by train that always seem to attract the moronic element.
After the morale-boosting win against Bournemouth in the cup, I predict a 1-1 draw- and if we're lucky, to nick a 2-1 away win! PUP
I'm going for 4-0 to Pompey. After seeing UnAppy's confidence I'm sure he'll lead you to a historic victory. "Our first victory is not too far away and not too far down the line we will give somebody a bit of a spanking.". I'm looking forward to seeing a packed away end and a great atmosphere on Sky.......
crap normally reserved for this board but for once an educated assessment of the odds for pompeys next game.
