    Thoughts?

I'm not saying it's true, but I hope it's not - £3m for him but we're not prepared to spend £5m on Maynard? That would be bad business.

IMO we should be looking to buy the best strikers in the Championship, not the best strikers in League 1.

Completely agree with you Emilio. Can't believe CMS is valued so highly and would be surprised if we paid that for him.

I heard we'd gone in with an improved offer for Maynard but things seem to have quiet. Would love to see him join us <ok>

BTW, how much have we spent on relaying pitches, big screens, electronic advertising boards, and Real Madrid friendlies under the Thais? They seem to be willing to spend money on things they will get advertising benefits from, but players? We seem to be being a bit tight at the moment.

Honestly, £3.5m bid for Maynard is pathetic if that's the highest one. We were Ok paying Yakubu's wages for 6 months but no longer apparently.

On the other hand we've spent £2-3m on Waghorn, whom we are likely to sell for no more than £1m. If we spend £3m on Mackail-Smith, who's not proved himself in the Championship yet, that's at least £4m potentially wasted. We're also selling Jack Hobbs ffor £800,000. I think Danger said on JA that it's one thing to tell the world we've got loads of money to spend (thus prices of targets going up) but then selling good young players on the cheap is stupid. We have to be careful we don't turn into everyone elses bitches.

The way we are investing money is baffling me at the moment.

In theory, yes the talk does not look good, but none of this has happened yet?

Waghorn and Hobbs still here, only on the face of it one signing, of a 'keeper. A few bids not accepted, lets wait, lets see what we have on August 1st and then comment?

We can afford to lose a bit at present unlike some teams, Sven is obviously not happy with current squad he inherited, who knows who bought Waghorn, was it Milan or Nigel? I am sorry but he was never worth that kind of money and believe Sunderland got there revenge for the player we skanked to them, cannot recall his name but pretty much sure he must be selling insurance now!

Kasper will be a good signing, Peltier sounds ok, Maynard and Nugent up in the air, with more youngish hungry players looking to be signed it is sounding like MON all over again?

There are not many managers that could have done what O'Neill did with the players he had. Sven is not one of those managers who can inspire and motivate players.

With this in mind we need to be using the money at our disposal. Sven's best strength will always be picking and attracting players, so this transfer window was always going to be massive.

Spending £3m on a player like Mackail-Smith smacks of panic buy to me. My particular issue with it is that he's not proved anything in the Championship (even Fryatt had had a decent season before we sold him for less than half this price) yet if we do sign him I think it's safe to say we won't be spending another £5m on a proven Championship striker like Maynard.

It seems pretty obvious that we were the Championship Club that had a £3m bid accepted. Are we really looking like signing any players (strikers in particular) that other promotion chasing teams would be frothing at the mouth to get? I think no.

I can't see the logic in paying £3m for Mackail-Smith, yet not paying £5m for Maynard. It sounds like we aren't willing to go that little bit further for more proven quality. And if Forest out bid us I will have to ask what the World is coming to..

If it turns out we didn't bid for Mackail-Smith and we get Maynard (or someone of a similar current standard) then I'll happily eat my words. <ok>

I see what you are saying. Sven is not MON, but I believe he knows a good player, Faz is magic as his no2 and belive they will make the best buys for the team and not big buys to keep us happy, I believe they will get promoted with the team they put together.

Have you considered Sven might be bringing both in. not one or the other. replacing the yak and waggy from last season

CMS, Nugent and MAynard would get us promoted but we'll get none of them.

I can't ssee us getting Maynard at all.

CMS is unproven and too big a risk although he looked Prem class at times last season.

Nugent is obviously a money grabbing tart!

Our tactics this transfer window have been nothing short of shambolic!

I've considered it, and think it to be very unlikely.

But if I'm wrong I'll hold my hands up and say fair play Sven

Yak, primary target ... more than likely ... out

Nugent comes upon a free, likely the next target that Sven wanted to capture, while at the same time looking into buying Maynard

Maybe the Nugent deal isn't going to go theough, so maybe we will need to fork out 8m for Maynard and CMS, but if moneys no problem, then this shouldn't be a problem, im guessing that Maynard and CMS wage demands will also be alot less than Yak and Nugents.

CMS pretty much single handedly got p'boro promoted last year, they leaked goals, if he didn't find the net so often, they would still be in league 1.
Im going to be controversial now and say that if p'boro had Fryatt instead of CMS last year, they wouldn't have got promoted.

If we did end up with CMS and Maynard, i'd still be very happy <ok>

I've heard we have agreed terms on CMS - if he is back up/cover fine but he managed around 10 goals last time he was in the championship and I feel we need a player that can score 20 plus goals. True, he may have improved but time will tell. On teh subject of Sven, I think he can motivate - he is quite enigmatic when he speaks and although quiet he exudes a confidence and belief that seems to attract people - lord knows he's shagged enough young birds!

What 3M for a back up striker?

The club need to realise we are still in the championship

Our pre season sees us playing Real Madrid, Valencia, PSV, Real Mallorca and Wolfsburg and then in the league we are playing teams like Brighton and Blackpool.

The only worry i have about the thais is if they have a long term plan. They just want the best and will pay any price just to make the club look good. But if we dont go up we will begin to mass up massive debts

Im pretty sure he will get more goalscoring oppertunities at Leicester than he will have at P'boro.

Couldnt agree more Wiz. CMS has proved that he can find the back of the net. He would have those opportunities in the team that Sven is putting together. I have seen CMS compared to Fryatt. There is one major attribute that CMS has - and that is pace. Personally I would welcome him.

Proud - we have had a £3m back up striker all this season! And probably about to lose 2m on him.

Burmese - with all the rspect and that, but 10 goals playing in Pborough team is pretty damn good! he may have topped 20 with our midfield?

This will please some people more than others but SSN are reporting CMS as going to West Ham.

I'm not too bothered either way with this one.

    NEXT!
