Was it £2.5m(possibly rising to £3.25m with add-ons) too much? I thought he looked really poor and I remember at the time he went to Brighton, many on here thought we should be pushing the boat out to get him. I'm glad we didn't, I know we're having trouble scoring at the moment, but he definitely doesn't look like he'd have been the answer.
I actually thought he looked like a pain in the arse to cope with, very quick and agile good close control, but he didn't have the best of games mind. I was thinking we'd bought the wrong striker from posh until McLean came on, because I thought he looked brilliant last night. McLean seems to have improved a lot recently and I'm really warming to him now, he's a presence we definitely miss when he's not on the pitch.
Is it just me or does anyone else sit there in wonderment at the lengths we go to NOT to score? Amongst the many, many occasions last night when we should have scored, was one that really summed everything up. Second half, Fryatt makes yet another one of his great runs and finds himself just inside the penalty area with the ball, and a defender in front of him but standing off. "SHHHHOOOOOOOOOOT" I scream (he must have heard me!!!) but no. Istead of getting a shot off he chooses to take a touch (giving the defender time to close him down) then he drops his shoulder to go outside (norrowing the angle to make the chance of scoring decrease significantly) and gets a shot off which is saved and pushed round the post for a corner..........SO PHUCKING FRUSTRATING!!! Intruth tho, I have rarely seen a game so stretched, so early, great game apart from the lack of goals, could have been 10-6!
That tackle McLean made on the South West touchline was excellent. Ran about 20 yards and slid in perfectly to tackle the rightback. SUPERB! If only he wasn't shyte at hitting the onion bag!!
I actually went away from last night thinking the complete opposite. I thought he played well and wish we ha him instead of McLean. He should of scored in the first half, worked hard to make chances with very little service in the second half. Beat the back two on on a few occasions and most of his shots were on target from difficult angles. If he had the service we were giving our strike force he would have scored.
Personally didn't rate him at Peterboro based on the money that was being bandied about for him at the time - lots of energy & chasing the opposition down but at best an average NPC player.
Looking at some of the other players we have signed and the fees it looks like both us and Brighton paid over the odds to Posh I think Mackail-Smith looks like a good player in this division though not worth £2.5 Mill , you have to remember we have a very good defence and not many have scored against us recently
I just thought, bearing in mind the money that he went for, that his first touch was often clumsy and he certainly didn't look anywhere near one of the best strikers in the league.
Totally agree with you on ^^^^^^^ this. Ive posted something similar on another thread. Even Brighton fans getting frustrated with CMS. Talking with one last night he has been poor for weeks and has been dropped. On last nights performance i would not pay 3.5pence for CMS.
I thought he looked a pain in the arse as Bob says. Can't remember him having a shot so we don't know if he'd be the answer to our problems. But they had a few players yesterday who could shoot well; hard and low and looked closer than ours which were much better chances. Agreed, it was a quality tackle and great cross following it, but like with every cross we put in the box yesterday, no one attacked it.
Henderson was a missed opportunity, didn't go for much of a fee and I'm sure he'd rather have come to us. Though he's another one who might be getting banged up... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2081906/Darius-Henderson-arrested.html
I thought Mackail-Smith showed a turn of pace at times, but I expected more danger. That Lualua fella was the one to watch for Hove Albion, lots of talent there. Whilst he was on the pitch it was clear that Rosie was under strict instruction not to go wandering. As soon as he was subbed, the old Rosie was back. Put him on his arse once or twice with his turns in fact. And Chester.
I thought CMS looked ok, as did that lad from Man City. Away from home against the meanest defence, they did cause us problems. Whilst we shared the spoils, I'd imagine they are far happier with a point than we are!
The Law are top of the list at the moment. They look to be in pole position. A stay at Her Majestys Hotel cannot be ruled out either.
rising above 3m would maybe be a bit much, but i reckon he would have had a hat trick if he was playing for us last night.
