Craig Gordon has apparently turned down Celtic or they couldn't agree a deal. Obviously don't know details but I wonder if SB may take another look. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/...wn-three-year-deal-with-spl-champions-celtic/
If Gordon has turned down a 3 year contract at Celtic, with the guarantee of European football I doubt he would consider a championship club
these footballers wind me up, if you really rate yourself as a footballer and can play at a high level and aren't money orientated why would you consider that mickey mouse league. Normally you only have to finish above Rangers or Celtic to win it!! Even thats changed now so they may aswell give celtic the trophy on the first day of the season. The european football argument is crap because if they manage to get to the 1st round thats a good run then they go out!!!!!!! Rant over
You're right that you never know. I just think that by turning down a club which is going to win the league next season, and will be playing European football (probably Champions League and then Europa league when they get knocked out) he must think that he can get something better, either in the premier league or abroad. As he wants to get back into the Scotland squad I think he will be looking for something more high profile than the Championship. But as Tickler says, time will tell
It always does. Lol. Southampton were also linked with Craig Gordon the last time this topic was discussed.
Unless he takes a huge cut in wages no championship side could take him. Rumoured to be Sunderlands highest paid player £55k+ per week ! Thats why Sunderland did not renew his contract. (as well as his reputation as a sick note !) Even the dinner lady can't fix that one !
how can we not afford him if his contracts up then he isnt getting £55k a week he's unemployed. He's worth what someone is prepared to pay him and a keeper thats always crocked isnt paid anywere near £55k a week
But the question is, is Celtic really high-profile? They're in a total joke league which is even moreso now with the absence of Rangers, the European thing is by default and they will be knocked out immediately. It seems like a similar situation to Leeds and Forest to me where people see the name and think they're a big club but what have they really got going for them?
In a word, yes. They are the biggest Scottish club (after the demise of Rangers), he would probably have been playing in both the Champions League and Europa League and would probably have got league and cup winners medals. I agree that the SPL is a joke, especially now that Rangers have gone but I can't see how you can suggest that they aren't high profile. Just because the SPL is of a vastly inferior quality to the EPL does not mean that they are not a big club
I don't get this Celtic - Rangers big club thing either. It makes it worse now Rangers have gone. "Come and play for Celtic your gaurenteed a winners medal" How can a competetive Pro footballer look at an offer from Celtic as a challenge???
You won't be saying that soon, about either of those clubs. Both have very bright futures with the impending new owners from the Middle East.
You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. There are very good vibes coming out of reputable sources at the moment regarding the takeover. It's not ironic, it's just surprising. Just because we have a glorious past doesn't mean we don't still have room to look forward to our equally bright future.
Yeah, heard it all before. Look at Leicester in the Prem and doing great...oh wait a minute......... Money dosn't mean you'll walk out of the Championship with 110pts on the board, its a bloody hard league.
I never said it was all about money, nor is that what I've read. Apparently the new owners are very fan friendly and keen to stick to UEFA's FFP rules while still investing sensibly in the team. That's all I need to hear to have faith it'll come good. I'm not saying we'll get promoted immediately or being a Leicester **** claiming we'll 'buy the league' (can't imagine anything worse). But the good feelings are out there. 30,000 average at Elland Road next season. In short, mocking Leeds and Forest for not being big clubs with big futures looks pretty silly.
You guys are so kind. This Fawaz Al-Hasawi taking over Forest seems like a really good egg too. Well-respected by a lot of people in Kuwait, apparently seen as more of a benefactor than a ruthless businessman, invested well in his club over there who he's built into the country's top side. Be surprised if they don't push for it next season; they still have some decent players left too. Leeds and Forest, sleeping giants awakening to become MASSIVE, MASSIVE clubs once again.
