Craig Gordon targets Sunderland first team return before end of season Apr 5 2012 Daily Record craig gordon SCOTLAND keeper Craig Gordon is desperate to return to first-team action with Sunderland. The former Hearts skipper has not figured for the Black Cats in over a year due to knee problems but hopes to complete his comeback in what seems destined to be his last season on Wearside. Gordonâs Sunderland contract expires this summer and although he has yet to open talks with manager Martin OâNeill about his future he is just happy to be fighting fit again. Gordon, 29, said: âThings are a lot more positive than they have been for a long time. Iâm back training and being available for games is the first step towards playing for the first team. âNow that Iâm back out there and getting a good amount of training and a few reserve games under my belt Iâm in a good position to look forward to the rest of the season and hopefully get a game before the end. That has to be my aim. âItâs difficult. It seems like an eternity ago now that I got the injury. Itâs just nice to be able to go out there and compete and know my knee is good enough to do that.â
