Just watched the goal again on Sky. That was some goal, another name to add to the goalscorer's roll of honour.
How did that manage to get through?

MM said eveyone in the squad would get a chance (not sure Eti is included though) and Conway had a transfer request rejected. It show how important the SQUAD is.

We had a big debate at the start of the season about a 20+ goals per season striker. The BEEB are currently listing the top 15 championship scorers, and we haven't got anyone in the list yet only Palace have scored more goals than us (and that's only one goal more).

Conway underlined that point today. Been out of the squad yet steps up to the plate when called upon and becomes the 11th player to score a league goal for us this season.

I still think has Noone has far more to offer than Conway. He's far more tricky and that may be the key to unlocking the Blackburn defence.

Yes, Conway did well and the goal was with his "LEFT" foot. Not just for standing on then. He did well and probably shaded the MOM award as he scored for us. Nice to score not with a header and from open play. Mind you both Helguson and Gestede should have put us clear before then.

Unfortunately for Conway it will be back to the bench for him next week with Noone to return. Noone gives us much more pace many more options and regularly beats his man.

Good for Malky to have selection issues though to emphasise the squad strength. No obvious injuries and no red cards. When is Smith due back?

I was in the posh seats today and saw Nicky Maynard walking through, not limping at all. Speaking from personal experience of knee injuries he looks well on the road to recovery.

Mutch picked up his 5th yellow so will miss the next game. Smith due back the week after next apparently.

We've come through a sticky patch with injuries and are still top.

Palace don't seem to have the cover we do and are heavily reliant on a couple key players, most notably Murray with 17 goals. What happens if he gets injured or he has a dry spell?

I hope the coffers stretch to a couple full backs cone January though.

Gunnar to come back in for Mutch then. Mutch gave us something different today in being able to run with the ball through midfield and must have got in 5 shots, 3 of which were deflected away and one was definitley goal bound.

Whitts looked a bit off the pace but they crowded midfield to restrict him and Mutch got more space.

Certainly one more full back needed - perhaps Lappin?

Still need a regular goalscorer despite our ability to score from all over the park. If Maynard comes back eralier than expected then he could be the answer but if out until March/April then we need a bit more quality up front.

I'm not sure why everyone is so convinced Maynard was or will be that goood for us. I watched him and thought he was off the pace, but maybe that was just getting up to match fitness, then again it may have been that being off the pace is what caused the injury in the first place.
And before he was injured can someone tell me exactly how many games he started or played in and how many goals he scored?

Snagg, I saw Maynard play (not sure who against) and he had 2 assists in the game, he hasn't scored for us as far as I am aware. I agree though, he isn't missed as much as he could've been. We are scoring from all over the park and HH is getting his fair share of goals. MM seems to favour the loan striker at the moment but is that through design or necessity? Why are we not seeing more of Gestede or Velonijka?
Our midfield (at home) have been superb and the amount of goals from our defenders is superb. So long may it continue and if MM decides on a 4-4-2 formation fine, our home resukts are second to none but we must improve on our away trips.

Im sure Conway will keep his place.

Noone will also come back and I think it will be back to the bench for Kim.

That's a fair shout Hilts, Conway on the left and Noone on his more natural right. Kim has been steady with some bright spots from what I've heard, but hasn't hit the heights yet. He's had a run of games, so maybe a week or two on the bench is the right thing for him.

Options, bloody options and more options. Can't get used ot this!

Scrappy game and not the best display against a team who drew everyone back and tried to catch us on the counter. Conway justified his transfer request yesterday with a great display, unusually, even taking on defenders down the flank. Fair play to the lad.

Kim was light weight against a physical Sheffield side and tried too many tricks. The Gunner should have started over Mutch who played a bit safe for me and not agressive enough. I felt Taylor had one of his best games in a while but he wasn't put under mutch pressure by the Wendies. Saw Smith in the car park going to the game with his kids. Not sure of his injury but he looked fine.

All that matters is we got 3 points.

Didn't we win every game (I think there were only 3 or 4) that Maynard played in. I know he didn't score but he must've done something right!

He'd undoubtably be an asset in this league.

i thought conway did ok, but noone is a different level to him.

there werent really any players that stood out but i thought mutch did very well in his first game back, sheffield dropped very deep allowing us to control possession - i knew it was only a matter of time before we scored and thank goodness we did - you would never have known conway had put in a transfer request though, attitude was spot on <ok>

CCFC - Noone is left footed but does that really matter with the ability of both Conway and Noone to play down either flank? They can easily switch to pi$$ off both full backs.

I'm not sure about playing 2 wingers though, could be a bit gung ho.

I stand corrected. Don't know why, but always thought of Noone as right footed. With MM encouraging fullbacks forward, playing on the 'wrong' side encourages the winger inside with teh FBs overlapping.

I think with the talent and discipline we have in the side there should be more interchanging of positions. As you say Blue, it keeps the defenders on their toes.

I'm not a Conway fan but he played well yesterday. But we missed Noone as we simply ran out of ideas in the final third as nobody was able to get beyond their full backs apart from Bellamy in the opening minute. I hope Noone plays on Friday instead of Conway.
