Now we've got Keogh, I doubt Bates will be sanctioning any more transfers for forwards. 'That's your lot, Simon.'
Monster, an agent mate. He also said Forssell held ball up ok today and showed some of his old touches, but was slow and lacked fitness. Dont think we have time to wait for him to get up to speed. (He was at Boro friendly match). Anyway, nothing confirmed but its a possibility, and Howard for a month loan isnt dead either. Maybe Billy out for longer than we think so we need a second man as well as Keogh, much as we have Becchio and Paynter for that role?
I think we should be getting rid of paynter anyway. Another striker would be welcomed but its not the priority
Agreed let Paynter & Grella go v surprised no-one has ha da look at Grella yet good touch & decent finisher who would do a good stint at many clubs
Good touch, not a decent finisher. He needs a lot more experience before he can hack it at this level, though I think he'd do OK in League One/Two if he actually played 90 minutes in 40+ games rather than being used wrongly as a supersub.
Living in Swansea I have seen a lot of them over the last few years and Craig Beattie apart from one wonder goal last season has been garbage. I suggest anyone who thinks otherwise should go over to the Swansea Boards now and politely ask their opinion. We should be looking at players like adam Le Fondre or others who still have their best days ahead of them with pottential to make the step up who will cost less because they are at smaller clubs not constantly looking to bring in players who at best were decent 5-10 years ago!!! If however Santa Cruz is a possibility and the wages will nearly all but be paid for by City then I would take a chance as such a signing could gavalnize the team to have someonie of his stature in the changing room. Another player available on a free is Trezeguet. He is 33 and scored 11 goals in 33 games in La Liga for the then newly promoted Herciules side. Another signing who could lift the team/crowd as well as doing a job in the sole front man role freeing up McCormack to play in the hole/out wide (when snoddy inevitably goes) where he is more effective.
Do we need another striker? I mean, unless it's a really good signing that will improve our team like Santa Cruz - which is probably unlikely - there's no point. If Grayson wants to play 4-4-2 in the longterm, then we need 4 strikers - McCormack, Becchio, Somma and Keogh (if he impresses and we sign him permanently). But if he's still set on a 4-2-3-1 then we really don't need anyone else. We need a short term loan, until Becchio is back. But we shouldn't be signing someone like Craig Beattie or Forsell on a free transfer. Tbh, if I was Ken Bates I tell Grayson he has to move on atleast one striker before I sanctioned another transfer. Billy Paytner should be banished like Grella has. Atleast Grella can actually play football.
Loads of players make the step up from Leagues One and Two. Smart signings of young, unproven, hungry players are always better than a player in the last part of his career.
Graysons punishing Grella by letting him rot in the under 18s (one of my mates plays in that team) Grella made his own rod by been so un professional about his loans if only hed have taken a leaf out of Beckford and Sommas books by going out on loan, getting used to the english game and then he couldve been great this year! But no he decided he was better than that and would fail to make any impact and would rot n then end up in league 2 after his contract runs out in 2013
