It's actually one of Ric's attempts at humour in response to some of yours. It's joking but obviously it's not welcome anymore. Bear that in mind when you fancy having a bit of banter with me...
Headline from Sky News. More humane than the alternative... Reaction as Djokovic to be deported LIVE!
Sage scenarios vs actual: an update It’s not the first time Sage’s modelling has been overly pessimistic. Before the summer reopening Sage modelled bed occupancy and in no fewer than nine scenarios the actual figure was lower than modelled. We’re often told that models look wrong in retrospect because people adjust their behaviour – or because restrictions are implemented, thereby preventing predicted calamity. But when Sage gloom is ignored and reopening has gone ahead, its scenarios have proved to be wide of the mark. Modelling matters. It has consequences. If the Sage summer reopening scenarios had been believed (as they were by Keir Starmer) lockdown could have been extended – with all the social and economic damage that would entail. If the Sage autumn scenarios had been believed, schools might have remained shut. If just one December cabinet meeting had gone differently there would have been sweeping restrictions that the real world data now tells us would have been completely unnecessary. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/how-did-sage-scenarios-compare-to-reality-an-update
Epidemiologists and modellers are like historians, great at explaining what happened in the past but absolutely no ****ing use at predicting the future.
BenevolentAI We are pleased to share another key moment in our #COVID19 research story: on Thursday, a panel of World Health Organization experts strongly recommended baricitinib for patients with severe or critical COVID-19 in combination with corticosteroids. BenevolentAI researchers first identified baricitinib as a COVID-19 treatment candidate using our AI platform. We were able to rapidly pinpoint the drug by using computational tools to augment scientific expertise and enable scientists to extract new insights from existing data. We are proud to see our research continuing to aid the evolving global pandemic response. Learn more about the news and our approach in this blog: http://www.benevolent.com/news/who-recommends-baricitnib-for-hospitalised-patients-with-covid-19 #AI #MachineLearning #DrugDiscovery #AIDrugDiscovery
Not a good week for Djokovic, the French Government have now said only vaccinated players will be allowed to compete in the French Open.
He’s the reigning champion of both the Australian and French Open. I think he can smugly argue that whoever wins this year is a paper champion.
It’s like the aftermath of Heysel. English teams won all but one of the European Cup finals between 1976 and 1984. Competition’s watered down if the best aren’t allowed to participate.
