Met several Coventry fans today, some in the Chapel Arms before the game, and others on the way back to Central afterwards. All wished Saints luck ..thanks guys. Their principal regret was SISU's involvement with their club. Best wishes for your future too.
We've had bad times as well...hope they get something sorted out. We had a lucky escape from SISU. Quite a few stayed to watch the celebrations afterwards.
There were some saints fans who wanted SISU to take over at Saints. Thank god they didn't. And a big thank you to Leon Crouch for helping us financially to keep us away from SISU all those years ago.
There's some similarity between the two clubs...venerable teams both and long-time fixtures in the top flight, both with good stadiums (though they don't own Ricoh), both mismanaged into the third tier with massive financial problems. Here's hoping that SISU moves on and they follow the same path Saints did.
I feel very sorry for Coventry City fans. They'll had a pretty good history of the top flight and they don't deserve the slump they are going through. However, looking at some of the younger players in their side today, there's hope there. Some of them gave gave a very good account of themselves, and all played well until the first goal went in. Then it was largely downhill, although they still fought bravely and with some skill. They sort of reminded me of a Dutch managed young Saints side after a while.
They sat in their coachs applauding us out the window as we walked up Britannia Road. Fair play to them.
They were great at the final whistle, as soon as we got on the pitch we applauded. Massive shame yet another big club are down there. I hope they bounce back, and they do a 'Southampton'. Waheey!
Fair play Coventry supporters, clapping and cheering us on. Hope their club sort out their finances and get back up.
They seemed a really good bunch, plenty of singing from them despite being relegated, and 4-0 down. I would certainly expect them to be challenging near the top of League 1 next season if they can sort out their ownership problems.
Yeah I agree with the above, Coventry would have been well within their rights to bring one man and his dog down today but they had a good following and made themselves heard. Fans don't deserve to go down...unfortunately the rest of the club kind of does.
Coventry fans were a credit to their team & club in the ground and those that i met afterwards were top lads who were genuinely pleased that Saints had got to the Prem. Good supporters and i hope that they can ' do a Saints ' !
yeah the Coventry fans were very good! spoke to some wished us luck and at full time were dancing to chelsea dagger!
I was really impressed with the Coventry fans. Always in fine voice despite knowing their fate already and the respect they showed us was top notch. As i walked past their coaches i heard them singing "oh when the Saints" which really touched me. Hearing another teams fans singing our song normally ticks me off but when i heard them sing it i was happy. All i can say is i hope they come straight back up next season. I for one will be following them next year.
I agree with everything said. Great to be walking out and seeing their coaches drive past with everyone applauding us. Top fans. Hope they bounce back quickly.
