    Once we get tonight's game out of the way the countdown to the new season really begins and the rumour mill will go into total over-drive. Only 27 days until the Ajax game. Looking at the fixture list I think the challenges we will face this season are now really sinking in!

    Lets hope Nigel and Nicola still have a couple of top class surprises under their hats. Reading might have bought more players than us but it's quality hat counts and I have complete rust in our management team to bring in the right people to take this club onto the next level. Start the clock the Saints are coming!

    COYR!

    If I came on N606 one day & you hadn't done a post, it'll be like starting a day without a cup of tea, so keep up the good work!
    <laugh>

    On topic, I reckon their sleeves are bulging with some surprising new addition, just waiting to spring it on us! Fasure.

    I notice that you have made a number of typographical errors in your post. Do you share your computer with anyone else?

    The very lovely etc uses this computer and when she does she moves the keyboard ever so slightly so that when I sit and type all the keys have been moved to the left so that when I type Southampton it comes out as dpiyjs,[ypm.

    Think 1 or 2 players will be in before the training camp in France. Would be nice to have them in for the Liebherr Cup.

    Lee's cast is off and his pin removed. Wonder if he'll stay at SMS for rehab or if he will travel to France for team-building purposes.

    I would like to think he will be taken as well. The medical staff are certain to be there in some form or other.

    As the Olympics have come closer and closer my interest has perked up a bit. I'm now looking forward to them quite a bit, so that competition will eat up the sporting time. Prior to that we have the Liebherr Memorial Cup, plenty of MotoGP races, and I have a fair bit of Sailing in front of me this summer, too. Got back from my Round The Island Race last night, absolutely bloody exhausted, with such a sun tan, despite oodles of sun block. We didn't win, but we did extremely well in our class. Actually, I think we did extremely well to finish, such was the attrition rate. Boats dropping out, sinking, and crews getting injured or going over the side, left, right and centre.

    Damn...I didn't know the Round the Island race was that interesting. I'll make sure I pay attention next year if you can promise capsizings and near drownings.

    I wouldn't be too jokey about it Fran, as one bloke got his eye pierced by a flying piece of wire shroud, and one older chap got the usual bang into the forehead with the boom, which broke his nose while sending him overboard. I personally saw a big catamaran that had sunk, with all the crew overboard and in the water. The RNLI people were brilliant as usual.

    The mistake is going out on a windy day with your sails up.<devil>

    Congratulations by the way. Checked IOW website and injured have been released from hospital, so hopefully on way to recovery.

    I will admit that when I see other crews pushing their boats so hard as to cause them to fail, or taking chances, or not taking enough care, I think they've only got themselves to blame, but they are real people, and they need saving. Also, the RNLI peeps have lives to lead, and they are volunteering to be out there because we are too. Myself, I would consider it a very big failure if I was part of a crew that needed their services, through any other reason than a pure unavoidable accident. We even took along two complete rookies, who can chalk up a real event in their lives, and they behaved themselves very well in such a baptism. As to the sails, we were well reefed when needed, so we left other boats to being blown all over the sea, while we had a relatively safe and fast ride. To give you some idea of the sea state: a few times, round the back end of the Island, we'd go down into a trough in the waves, and all the other boats would disappear, and then we'd pop up and see everything. The Island looked lovely, btw. Thanks for the congrats, I'll check the website.

    If anyone is interested, I found this BBC local news item and video showing the Round The Island Race: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-18660634

    On 29 seconds appears an almost identical boat to the one we were sailing. So similar in fact I had to check that it actually wasn't us, as we did have the odd photo and camera crew around us at various points. Note the conditions. That was probably around the Needles, at low tide. Once we were out in the Channel the Sun came out, but the swell was much deeper.
