Nice one. I'd like to say the same about Rangers in Scotland, but they never had a culture to begin with. Spent a couple of months wandering in Mexico 25 years ago. You are of course absolutely right, the native cultures are all still there, under this veneer of Catholicism. Has the gloriously named Party of Institutionalised Revolution made it back into power yet? It's a brilliant country, such a shame about the violence and Cancun now.
Hehe Rangers! Tbh I know little about the PRI and Mexican politics but any political party calling itself "institutional" is bound to go bad. Much like Labour dropping Clause 4, the shameful disintegation of the Italian Communist Party and for that matter the Christian Democrats too. They just turn into troughs for the exploiters and apparatchiks to stuff themselves at. Mexico is beautiful, my first ex wife moved to Oaxaca from Italy and always said it was an amazing country especially the people. Unfortunately its northern neighbour brings it great misery, such wealth divides are always problematic, very sad.
