Bristol Post newspaper have tried to organise a public debate with the campaign group which has fought for a judicial review, Nick Higgs and Bristol North West MP Charlotte Leslie. However, a Councillor allied to TRASHorfield said yesterday that they declined to hold a debate on the judicial review. The group said it had pulled out of the proposed event because the Rovers chairman - Higgs - was âirrelevantâ to the legal process. They added they had made a counter proposal of inviting Ms Leslie and a director of Sainsburyâs â which wants to redevelop the stadium â to the next Bishopston Neighbourhood Forum. Green councillor Daniella Radice and Liberal Democrat councillor David Willingham said: âTRASHorfield has declined to hold a debate on the judicial review with Nick Higgs and Charlotte Leslie organised by the Bristol Post newspaper. TRASHorfield believes that Nick Higgs is irrelevant to this process since the judicial review concerns Sainsburyâs planning application. We would like to invite Charlotte Leslie and a director of Sainsburyâs plc to our next available Bishopston Neighbourhood Forum in the new year to talk about the judicial review, Sainsburyâs and its impact on our community. Nick Higgs is irrelevant in this debate since the judicial review focuses on Sainsburyâs application to build a giant store in our community.â Read more here: http://www.bristol247.com/2013/11/2...rman-irrelevant-judicial-review-debate-72460/
I think there are two important points here. 1. TRASH do not want to be embarrassed by losing the debate on a public forum Higgs knows the detail of the planning process from top to bottom. Higgs is an experienced businessman who is used to negotiating to get the best deal. Higgs would probably tear the arguments put forward by TRASH to pieces. 2. TRASH know that if they can set up the debate with Charlotte Lesley, then they can reduce it to a political argy-bargy and avoid any discussion in depth over their very shallow protests. Half the time will be spent insulting each other rather than talking about the main issues.
