Could we be losing Ba for longer than we thought?

A few of us, including me, thought that Senegal weren't exactly a top African side and maybe would get knocked out in the early stages of the ACN.

But I've had a look at some of the players they have -

    Ba
    Moussa Sow
    Pappis Demba Cisse
    N'doye
    Kara
    Gomis
    Diop
    Diawarra (CB)
    Mangane
    Traore
    M'bengue

All good players and most at pretty good clubs, mostly French league.

    Demba Ba--------P.Cisse-------------Moussa Sow

    -------Kara------Gomis-----Diop-------

    Traore---Diawarra-----Mangane---M'bengue

    ------------------Condoul-----------------

Senegal are better than I thought. :(

Their goalkeeper is the only player that I've never heard of before.

They seem to lack some creative mids, but they have 3 strong central midfielders there. They have a pretty strong defence, and a few quality up front men.

I could see their squad getting quite far.

I've expected them to get to the quarter finals since the draw was made.

Looking at some of the teams in the ACoN, I'd expect Senegal to go far.

I still reckon the Ivory Coast should romp it. I know there are some decent African teams but with players like Kolo, Eboue, Konan, Yaya, Drogba, Tiote, Kalou and Gervinho they should smash everything before them.

One thing most ACN teams seem to lack is creative mids. But they have a lot of tough defensive/holding mids.

Should say that despite having Eboue they have enough quality players.

Baffles me how Wenger turned him from a pretty good RB to a **** midfielder / utility man. And he's supposedly a genius (based on finding and converting Henry).

I'm looking forward to the goalies. Trousers, short sleeves and eccentricities.

I guess it's something to do with athleticism and physicality of the players and just the way they're built. Must be a similar reason as to why all the good endurance runners come from that part of the world too.

They're good endurance athletes because generally they need good stamina for everyday life when growing up. And the only sports they really play are ones not involving complicated and complex equipment. So sports like running and football are staple parts of childhood.

For the same reason you don't see many African swimmers, cyclists, tennis players, racing drivers etc as they don't generally have the facilities available when growing up.
