http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17952036 With a team spirit like this, can't see them getting any more points, if we could get 4 ........
Unfortunately not. Their goal difference means it's incredibly unlikely both us and Bolton will overtake them. It's a real shame as the way McLeish has approached the season they deserve to go down and if the league went on for an extra game or three they undoubtedly would. The fewer teams we have to play from the ****cunt Midlands the better.
I go to the gym, uni, the library, Tesco, the off licence, Powerleague- there's always someone in a Villa shirt, normally someone in a Birmingham shirt and I've not got a clue what any of them are talking about.
Try living next to the ground. I encounter them with alarming regularity, not so much Birmingham for obvious reasons although one guy did brave going into Tesco in a Birmingham shirt on Villa match day Once went in the pub when Villa were playing Wigan (I think) and there was just this weird Villa fan moaning about Mcleish and told me one of the unfunniest jokes ever. I just nodded my head, laughed and pretended I knew what he was talking about
It probably won't happen but I'd love it if they went! If only we could squeeze a point from Stoke Sunday, we could go past them!
4 Points if we can get one Sunday, and Villa loose both games will do it. Citeh will beat Newcastle, ManU will beat Swansea, then Citeh will bottle it against us, a Balotelli own goal will keep us up, send Villa down, and give the title to ManU. Back to the Campari, and here's to ya Balotelli!
We can hope! It can happen. Chelsea beat Barca over 2 games, Wigan beat ManU. We have beaten Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs at home, Citeh away on a very good day is the final champagne opener!
O'Neill is definitely very talented, but I'm glad we didn't get him. There is something abrasive about him and he likes being the under dog too much. At one time he was seen as Fegusons successor at Utd, but I don't see the really big clubs going for him now. He got Villa to sixth, which is impressive, but could not kick on from there. And Villa, by rights, should be a big club.
Can't agree with that one Stan. He took over at Sunderland and roared them up table. Our bloke has us deep in the mire. We've seen whats happened to Villa since he left and three successive top 6 finishes for Villa are their best positions in a generation. I don't think a Club of their size are entitled to be any higher than that. Maybe he is abrasive. His refusal to condemn Celtic fans for singing IRA chants is a blot on his copybook. I certainly would have preferred him to any other manager but we got Sparky and the next two games will tell whether he'll be a success or a disaster.
Fair enough Swords, I think I'm just trying to justify a personal reaction to him. And you are right about Sparky too. The massively irritating thing is I am certain that he will really take us places in the Prem, but we have to stay there. I know, like me, you don't see the romance of the Championship, and I'd be very surprised if Sparky enjoys it.
Totally with you there. If we stay up and its a massive IF, I can see Hughes taking this Club on an upward spiral. As someone said before, hes just not an "Impact Manager" like O'Neill is. Hes more methodical and tactical. Its takes time for him to build his teams. He has made mistakes though and the biggest one IMO was signing defenders instead of focusing purely on midfield and up front. Our defense was never the weak link. Its always risky buying in a load of players and trying to build a new side from scratch mid-season. Some might even say suicidal. The next two games will tell all.
TBF Warnock was going to do the same and had been linked with some of the buys himself. The issue I really have with your post though is that you cannot really say that "our defence was never the weak link". It was by far the weakest link as evidenced by the lack of clean sheets. There are inevitably lots of ifs and buts to explain where we are at the present moment. My only gripe is that we have thrown away good chances to pull clear by being overcautious when playing away from home particularly in the last few games. The fact that Wigan will have probably managed to do it from a very difficult position makes it all the more galling that we seem to have given up the fight when we play away. By the way, I agree that if we stay up, Hughes seems to have the ability to develop us into a team that can compete at the highest level. Provided of course that TF does not become impatient and cuts his losses.
