I was wondering if as an employee of Leeds United FC, Pearce could walk away from the club during his initial "probation" period?
I doubt footballers have a "probation" period as such, but the employment law in the UK, allows for either party to decide that the employment is not in the best interest to them and that they would be allowed to end the contract. This is obviously within a time scale, which I understand Pearce is well within.

Why? Where does it state that a professional footballer is any different an employee of an organisation, with no employee rights.

Legally they would be entitled to it, this isn't about what the clubs want, this is the law in the UK.

Dont believe for one minute that would be allowed to happen. You could just pay players to screw other clubs over

I guess that is what I am trying to find out, is the law of employment within the UK, applicable to professional footballers?

We had that guy a few years ago - Liver-something? - went off to Hull did he not after only a couple of days?

I guess Pearce could put in a transfer request immediately (or at any time) and make it very clear he feels he was let down and promised a load of bull

But like the rest, he will be on holiday and thinking "I can't be bothered to think about this right now, I'll sort stuff out when I get back to the UK"

I dont think it can be.

madrid buy ronaldo for £80mil. Ronaldo walks out leaving them £80mil out of pocket...and then rejoins Scum. Surely that cant happen

David Livermore: Millwall sold him to Leeds in 2006, he didn't play a single game and 10 days later was sold on to Hull City. The reasons given were that Blackwell thought we had similar players in Westlake and Nicholls.
He now plays for our favourite non league club, Histon. <grr>

In this case, yes, an agreement was made between both parties.

I take it back about LIVERMORE, he must have played once (friendly):

    Livermore David.jpg

We paid Millwall £400,000 for this bloke in 2006, just think what that could bring us now?

To clear things up for you.

Jason Pearce is still a Portsmouth player. He has signed a contract with Leeds United that will officially come into effect from the 1st July. Thats when the football League will change the players regestration to Leeds

Until that time he is still well with in his rights to walk away from that contract with no compensation due to anyone. Obviously Portsmouth would have to pay back the fee you paid for the player. Its just an agreement which can be broke by any party before the 1st July

    I doubt that.

Otherwise, what's the point in signing a contract?
