With the council in financial meltdown could now be the right time to make an offer for the Liberty stadium...what are the fans views on this...

I've just hinted at this on the ticket thread! I do think this could be a very good opportunity for the club to raise a 10 year commercial mortgage, or come to some sort of commercial arrangement with Swansea City Council to pay a couple of Million per year, etc!..<cheers>

Great idea - not least because it would shut those arseholes up from down the M4. <laugh>

What would the benefits to the club be in owning the stadium ?

Yet another thread diverted off track to talk about Cardiff City. :cheesy:

I think Huw should grasp the nettle Dai while there are spare millions to spend and kick out the rugger buggers. <ok>

Well that is the question really, the pro's will be the obvious where the building will be ours and anyone who wants to use it will have to pay the club and the cons would be that we take all the costs that it takes to run the stadium on our shoulders....the question is do the pro out weigh the cons ? At a guess i would say yes but the truth is i don't know..

I dont want to kick out the ospreys as that is revenue and if we do buy the stadium then we need all the revenue we can get..

why do we need to own it ? its just extra expense that we dont really need to have . The assets for us would and should be the acadamy and new training complex . Owning the stadium would be good if we were looing to off load to a new overseas owner, which i dont think we want ,so whats the point ?

Keep it council owned i say .

Nothing diverted sweetheart. Apologies. You're right of course. I've never witnessed a Cardiff fan bring up the fact our stadium isn't owned by us. But I agree with you on one thing, it's time for our egg chasing friends to sod off. <ok>

I think it's about control, Norway. It also increases the Club's asset portfolio. I can see your argument but ownership is a no brainer I think.

Exactly this! If we were looking for foreigners to take over then that would be the appeal to them. However we are a club run by the fans who have the clubs best interests at heart. I'd take that over the billions any day of the week.
    We are no ones toy.

Owning the stadium doesn't make us anyone's toy though does it?

No but the main benefit of owning a stadium is that it's deemed an asset to the club.
What good would that do us if we are looking to keep the fans as owners?
Gate receipts etc would more than likely be outweighed by the costs compared to what we make from it now.

The council need to sell the liberty anyway and its best we own it than possibly some private owner who could easily be foreign who will be in it for nothing more than personal financial gain who could quite easily triple what we pay now and we wont have a leg to stand on....Buy it and we control everything..

How much rent do we pay now? Because say the council sell it for 30m (Cost 27m to build in 2005, probably worth more now but would be looking for a quick sell) then how long would it take that investor to make back 30m from rent? Far longer in my eyes than he is willing to wait.

the rent we pay is only a very small part of what the stadium generates and owners will be looking at more than just football and rugby..

Offer them £10m. Desperate sellers can't be choosers. It's not as if the council paid for the place out of their own (ie the taxpayers) pocket anyway. They sold underused land with a poorly built athletics "stadium" on it to developers who stumped up the cash.

By purchasing it would it not, with it's limitations on the amount of extension work available , limit our options as a club to expand ?. additional costs at the moment we don't need imo
