He can certainly get box to box, he's big and strong,he can tackle, ne has pace, he never shirks from wanting the ball or am I getting carried away with today? I know he has flaws and could be limited with his vision but I saw enough to suggest he could play there. Maybe not this season but worth a punt pre season to see how he copes.

Big difference between whipping the ball in on the wing and accurate ball playing in the centre mate.
WE want some one like him but with the ability to stand on the ball and look around.

A prime example of what McClean lacks was shown in the last three minutes against Man City when he was clean through on goal, and fired way off target. Had he taken the time to look up he would have seen Sess in the middle of the goal, with an open goal in front of him, a nailed on second would have eased all the anxiety that we had to suffer in those dying minutes.

Very true. Mcclean had one of his best days in months but his shortcomings were still there to see.

Yesterday was awesome but let's not get carried away, we are still short of real quality in 2 or 3 areas and for all his effort and work rate, Mcclean is way short of real quality. That incident which would have resulted in sessegnon tapping in a well deserved goal shows his lack of vision and intelligence and whilst a player with his attitude, pace and work rate is certainly required, so is one with far better ability as well.

He never learns. Did the same the other week at Man Utd, shot from a stupid angle with 2 men spare waiting for a simple pass. Greed?

To be fair both sess' and fletcher were guilty of the same thing yesterday.

The biggest downfall for Mcclean is his head down running and nit looking. However he wouldn't be your creative midfielder and I'm not saying play him there on Saturday.

He played well yesterday but, don't think he would be much cop as CM that is a position where a two footed player is needed lads.

McLean should never be played in the centre of midfield. His control is poor, he cant pass, he has no vision and he has the worst off-foot that has ever been seen on a professional football pitch. He is a one trick pony that can do a job on a wing but should never, ever be moved into the centre of the park. Look back to the Norwich match where they did the same and put him there for about 5 mins before they had to move him out as he was running around like a headless chicken and the game was totally passing him by. That led to them doing what they should have done yesterday - the better decision at that time would have been dropping McLean to left back and moving Rose into CM.

he doesn't have the composure/control to play c.mid, although he can match Catts for grit and determination. keep him where he is, helping create space forothers to better exploit

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. To be fair as concrete says Fletch and Sess are also guilty of this, Sess does it every game on more than one occasion yet this seems to be forgotten. I have stated more than once that you would think Sess and McClean didn't get on the amount of times Sess looks his way but doesn't pass. MCClean is still learning and from what I can see he is improving and to be honest when he shot instead of passing showed his confidence is also growing. As he grows those final bits of quality will also come as he realises an assist is as good as a goal afterall he has taken a lot of abuse lately yet still stands tall that is something that impresses me.
