If Persie has chose to stay loyal to the club who could have offloaded/released him many times during constant injuries.. he may have been up there with one of the greats at the end of his carreer and we may have even seen a statue of him next to henry... But he went the other way... Welcome Podolski and Giround (hopefully Loriente)... future, forget the past. Great player, but in History he will now be seen just as a good player we have for a season or two and buggered off.
No he will be seen as a great injury prone player who only had one good season for us and never realised his dream of winning trophies with us. He will certainly not be mentioned in the same breath as Henry (who left under similar sounding circumstances).
not legend material- if stayed on and been only half as good as last season - he may have joined the greats. Oh! well.!
The difference with Henry was he actually gave us many, many seasons of goals. I wouldn't begrudge Van Persie leaving if he'd helped us to the silverware and scored the goals that Henry did
so an injury prone one season wonder player (your words) makes your forum banner above everything and everyone else? It should be noted that he single handedly got you CL last season and thus guaranteed you £30m this coming season...
What old tosh. Not even Messi could "single handedly" get a team above relegation. It's a lie. It's like we were a one man team when he had Fabregas. And before that Henry. You're posting like a lazy talksport journalist there.
What the **** has that got to with anything? Mick (owner of the site) chose that banner when he set up this site. That along with your 'single handedly' comment is just idiotic.
Wrong. Without his assist's he would not have scored as many, did you not see him flop in the euros, do you think he would've missed those sitters at Arsenal?
No-one is ungrateful to RVP for his exploits last season. And I would not begrudge him if he had wanted to leave this season. I and other fans would have been supportive of him had he been respectful in his dealings with the club however he has made himself a stench and his legacy is now tarnished. Nothing legend about him anyway. I hope he reads this (unlikely), but I hope he does.
His return on 7 years of nurture, development and support was 1 and a half good seasons and now he's nearly 29. Definitely not legend status.
To many haters he was (is) a good player for us the man from holland for god shakes he not even from north London.
Arsenal should keep RVP and make him see out his commitment to our club. We've stuck by him through thick and thin and in my opinion he owes the club more than one good season.
I think RVP needed one or two more seasons like the last one before he would go down as a great. Thats why I was surprised that he didn't stay. I think he would be remembered far more as a "Great" at Arsenal, without a trophy, than by moving and getting a "cheap" trophy somewhere else. Maybe I am just a little old-fashioned, but I don't get this trophy crap. There are so many players that never won a trophy at their club, that are remembered and a vast many others that did win a trophy that nobody remembers.
I don't think he single-handedly did anything, and 14 years in the CL without him doing anything special is proof of that. Yes he was the focus of the attack last year, but Wenger put together a plan that made him that focus and history shows that with him or without him, Wenger would have probably come up with something else to get us into CL football, if RVP hadn't come through. I don't think putting the team captain on the forum banner is a sign of anything.
