rumour has it that nick powell who scored the first goal for crewe at wembley is about to bought by man utd for £5million. given crewe are £1 million in debt, this deal if it goes through will leave crewe in credit and change in the back pocket!
If Powell is worth £5 million then how much is Collins worth? I am sorry but that is just silly money for an 18 year old untested at anything above League 2 level.
Powell is a cut above though. I would value Collo at about £500k, and whilst I accept that Powell isn't 10 times the player Collins is, transfer fees aren't directly proportional to players' abilities. For example, there's no way Stewart Downing is 2000 times the player Mark Wright is.
Powell is an outstanding talent and appears to have learnt a lot since he was sent off against Shrewsbury last August. For his age in this league I have not seen better. With Crewe it does not stop there. Nine of the eleven came through their academy plus the subs. Many of these are already of appreciable value to higher league clubs. The "world is their lobster" as a certain geezer from Peckham would say.
i thought collins was an england u21. surely 5million is cheap compared to what he will be worth, besides 5m is peanuts to man u, and if competition comes from man city and london clubs, crewe could be buying the kitchen sink as well
