Makes you really wonder about the people running the city, doesn't it?

They and 'competence' would appear to be complete and utter strangers to each other!

Steve Brady blathers about risking the future of football and rugby league, if the stadium were sold. Surely a covenant could be written into the deeds?

I'm sure the Allams could make a better job of running the KC (together with planned development).

Do you live in Hull? Did you vote? If the people of Hull dont like it then change it. It is in your hands. It really pisses me off when people moan about the councillors in HUll - if these people live in the city then they put them there!! If it's that bad why dont they run for it themselves and do something about it?

No mate, I live in Norfolk - have done for 16 years now. But I used to live in Hull and I used to vote (I vote here too - people fought for my right to do so!). But it doesn't mean that, because I vote, candidates are worthy of my vote. I usually vote to stop the enemy getting in. NOT out of any great faith!


[Edit: Here, for instance, the county council is going to let a whacking great incinerator plant go ahead. Despite public wishes. It's now the subject of an enquiry, with the council telling voters it will cost £10m to abandon!]
 
A surprisingly poor piece of journalism from the Yorkshire Post, they're normally better than that. Not all values can be counted in direct £sd. Local Authorities exist to provide services, not profits.

Whilst the Stadium was being built, the Council was under continued criticism and scrutiny from the Government Audit Commission regarding every aspect of what it did. The Commission expressed a negative view on the annual costs to the Council Taxpayer if it were to run the stadium itself. This resulted in the Council looking for a solution to address the Commissions concerns and Adam Pearson took the opportunity to relieve the Council of it's financial risk in running the stadium itself. I think it is fair to say Councillors were forced down the road of not running and managing the stadium itself, and may be the Auditors intervention led to mindsets that they were avoiding a financial liability rather than dealing with something that could make money.
The Government's Audit Commission does I think have some culpability for the poor deal in raising a concern that was not valid, but no doubt it would say the Council could have done a better deal.




As to why the Council agreed to pay full commercial rent for any part it occupied, I honestly don't know
