Steve Cotterill: Robins need revamp. please log in to view this image Steve Cotterill admits Bristol City are in need of an overhaul after a 1-1 draw at Oldham saw them fall back into the relegation zone. Oldham went ahead after five minutes when Danny Philliskirk scored his 11th goal of the season with a stunning drive from 25 yards. But City levelled five minutes later as Oldham failed to clear Bobby Reid's corner and defender Aden Flint pounced to hook in the loose ball. There were few real chances in a game ruined by strong winds, with Philliskirk and Gary Harkins going closest for the home side and visiting striker Tyrone Barnett forcing a rare save from Oldham keeper Mark Oxley. Flint could have snatched a late winner for City but his close-range header flashed wide of the far post to leave his manager labelling the Robins' rebuilding as a a long-term project. Cotterill said: "You are always chasing wins and obviously we wanted to win this one, but you have to bear in mind where the club has been heading for the last few years. "Standards have slipped during those years and it takes time to turn all of that around. "I suppose I'm pleased with a draw, but I'm not very patient and if we had done a few things better we could have won the game. "We should have got a tackle in to stop the shot for Oldham's goal, so the players know my views about that. It was one of those days when the wind played havoc and it was difficult to get any sort of rhythm. "Both sides tried to play football and I was happier with some of our play in the second half - there were a couple of great moves which would have led to excellent goals if we'd finished them off." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9157779/cotterill-standards-have-fallen
Its not so much that standards have fallen, it the extent. We have gone from being one game away from the Premier League to the relegation trap door approaching League 2 in a little over 5 years.
What makes it worse is our game in hand against orient is on Tuesday and its not even a game in hand anymore... We'll go 1, 2, 3+ up on other teams... Have to beat them. Who cares if they are at the top. We have to win
it's true mate. there was a time when you thought, massive game away, hard to get anything, and we would grind out a result somehow.. Now, well we all know 2-0 down by HT and all so predictable.. of course I hope I'm wrong but...
Draws are of little importance to us now and unless we can find a way to win then I fear for the worse and I can't see the winning ways coming back to us at Brisbane Road. The rotting smell deep within the bowels of Ashton Gate has been allowed to fester to the point of no return. Forget the fact we have cornered the market for lousy players when it comes down to blame then the fault lies solely with our owner and the people he has hired over the years. I think the first sign of the bad smell was evident when Steve Coppell headed down the highway with his fingers clenching his nostrils. You can learn a lot about your future by looking at your past, and both ends of the self evaluation process for us are very bad all around.
Hang on Two days ago Cotterill was declaring that we have improved as a side, now after getting a reasonable draw at Oldham he is saying we need to rip it up and start again (!) What the hell is going on ?
Yes 5 weeks playing twice a week just to catch up, their squad is probably week and this could be their season downfall.
