SKY have named Cotterill, why bother having a news conference..? please log in to view this image Bristol City have named former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cotterill as their new manager, according to Sky sources. The 49-year-old left the City Ground in July 2012 and worked as part of Harry Redknapp's coaching team at QPR earlier in 2013 but declining the chance to stay at Loftus Road for the current campaign. He takes over at Ashton Gate following last week's sacking of Sean O'Driscoll, who oversaw the Robins' fall into League One and failed to register a victory in the club's first 11 games in English football's third tier. City are in desperate need of stability as they seek to regroup and preserve their League One status - the club have dispensed with the services of Keith Millen, Derek McInnes and O'Driscoll in the last 26 months. There is a news conference at Ashton Gate at 1100 where Cotterill is expected to be confirmed. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ve-named-steve-cotterill-as-their-new-manager If he is named our manager, Steve Cotterill will have my 100% support....
Really excited about this not,i wish the guy well but he is on a hiding to nothing,at least all expectations are zero at present.
Confirmed, Cotterill is our new BOSS...... http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ve-named-steve-cotterill-as-their-new-manager
A new man, enthusiasm coming back, new ideas, fresh determination, we have got to get behind our team and get rid of the doom and gloom merchants.... Up the City....
Being a local person, I would suspect putting a club on the up in this region would be a good driving force, and like you said e speaks ours lingo doesn't e
Morning All Uninspired by this appointment, but I was uninspired by GJ and look how well that went for us. Good luck to him and us. I'd be surprised if he steered us away from the dreaded drop, but wouldn't blame him if we went down. Local'ish boy who can hopefully fill our squad with some pride and inject them with some enthusiasm for winning football games.
RR my expectations aren't zero, i'm more excited about SC than i was about SoD, i for one think he will keep us up this season, and as you can see, our last coach has put him in a perilous position. COYR.
Took this off OTIB made me laugh and think of the doubters already Good luck Steve, welcome to Ashton Gate. Ps here's a few tips: 1. Manage expectations - tell the fans they're sh1t, tell the board they're sh1t, tell the players they're young/inexperienced so will make lots of mistakes (don't worry if they're old/experienced, no one will notice) 2. Get your excuses in early - you probably won't get away with the 'Transition' excuse, as that card has already been played, but 'evolution' should do the trick - google 'Darwen' for quotes. 3. Get some intellectual boffin to write your programme notes. Talk dribble about process over outcome. Do not be optimistic. 4. Do not show any signs of enthusiasm. This will be seen as weakness and sets false expectations. 5. Pretend that you're operating on the smallest budget in the league (despite the fact it's probably the 2nd highest). Some will buy this. 6. Don't worry about results. It's the performance that counts. 7. Don't worry about the performance. See points 1-5 for excuses. 8. Talk up the opposition. The above guide worked for the last bloke (according to some) so, if you look on the bright side, you've inherited some very gullible supporters!
If JL is right it all sounds good to me.... 'City vice chairman Jon Lansdown said: "I'm delighted that Steve has chosen to join Bristol City Football Club. "I believe he has the drive, energy and ability to get us back to winning ways.' Better than the cultured misery we have all just endured...weet... I love this tweet.. Bristol City FC ‏@bcfctweets 9m SC: "There's a fantastic long-term plan here with the five pillars. But we'll never get that if we don't have a short-term one." Get in there...
WHAT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND IS THE 3.5 YEAR CONTRACT............again it is a load of hogwash as when SEAN was appointed it was to ensure there was no opportunity for massive redundancy payments if the "manager was deemed not of the correct ability"..........so in 18 months should we find ourselves in the mire, a surfeit of not our type of player as we want to change the style, another 5 or more HIGHER PAID/ LOANEE JOURNEYMEN added to our squad to get us out of the s***te...makes no sense, again shows the the inaptitude of the board and JL... ANYWAY its not your fault SCOT...you need a job and we have now employed you WELCOME and the best of LUCK
bviousl Pissy, you obviously still think you are the 'Barca of the 4th tier'..... There is no way you will get promoted and play us next year. It would be nice to thump you 2-1 again though... please log in to view this image
See you next season from a Rovers fan???? that's being a bit presumptuous isn't it! who says Rovers are going to stay up!!!!! Once again I'll get behind the new manager and hope that they have got it right this time!! Time will tell, although I'm also confused about the 3+ year contract.
Afternoon Fellas......woke up this morning to the news and I, for one, am glad that we have sorted out the manager position but am also surprised by the length of the contract. Our recent incumbents have failed to last any length of time and so it would seem silly to offer a 3.5 year contract but I can definitely see Cotterill pushing for this as a negotiating point...."why would I take the job when past history shows that I'll be fired in short notice....give me some security Mr. Lansdown"..... Let's hope that he keeps us up as Job 1 but also can inject some flair into our play. He has a "long ball" tag at the moment but the press conference suggested he wanted a quick tempo passing game which we would all love. This better work out as we are becoming a hire & fire club which does not attract good players or managers (unless you have bags of cash like Chelsea). COYR
