Manager speaks following cancellation of New Yearâs Day fixture. please log in to view this image Steve Cotterill has spoken of his disappointment following news that the New Yearâs Day game at Leyton Orient has been postponed. The Matchroom Stadium floodlights have been damaged during recent adverse weather conditions, meaning the venue is unsafe for public use currently. Following Cityâs back-to-back wins over Walsall and Stevenage, the club's manager says the players were looking forward to a trip to East London. And Cotterill told bcfc.co.uk: âIâm really disappointed that the game has been called off. âWeâre in good form and, on the back of the recent successes at Ashton Gate, everyone was looking forward to the match. âThe postponement is a major disappointment for everyone at the club, including our supporters who were planning on making the trip.â A new fixture date will be announced in due course on bcfc.co.uk and tickets for the original match will remain valid. After the announcement of the new date a refund will be available for those unable to make the rearranged fixture. This has come at just the right time for Orient who have an injury crisis within their small squad (19 pro`s) and the wrong time for us as we were hitting a bit of consistancy, I really fancied us to take all 3 points.
Think you might be right about it helping them To look on the bright side - we can play a fresh strong XI in the FA Cup - also for the re-arranged game with Orient we may have a couple of additions to our squad

So maybe there is more to this than meets the eye and they don't want the game to go ahead and now have a convenient excuse
I don't mind it being called off, we are on bit of an improvement and this will mean we have fresher legs for Saturday and hopefully be in even better form when we play them.
Nobody will ever know whether it benefitted either team and any assumptions are invalid. I suppose if we look at it solely from our side of the coin then maybe it will give Cotts more time to work with the lads prior to our next fixture in the cup vs Watford. Just before our next league match the transfer window will have kicked in and who knows we may have some new players to hopefully boost our squad and possibly have a fully fit Kelly back in the lineup. These things are sent to try us and if we look on the positive aspects then perhaps, in the long term, this postponement may be a blessing in disguise.
It turned out that way against Watford last year and Crawley this- Who knows though, I reckon we could have won today
