The most recent job for the newly appointed City boss involved a spot of coaching alongside Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers last season, but he insists he always yearned to be the main man again. Now the former Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Cheltenham Town chief is eager to win the immediate backing of his new club’s fanbase with sheer enthusiasm and passion to steer the Robins clear of trouble. “The challenge is one I’m looking forward to.." “Having done a bit of coaching last season it’s not really where I see myself. I see myself very much as a manager who can coach, rather than a coach who can manage. “It’s a great club with passionate fans and I’ve had some tough battles here down the years with teams who have had to be ready for a proper game. “It’s always been a tough place to come and hopefully now I can be the beneficiary of it. “I hope I can deliver what the fans want, which is success out on the pitch. It certainly won’t be for the lack of trying. I’ll bring passion with it, that’s for sure, and hopefully they’ll take to me. “I would describe my management as hard working and honest. I think I’ve got decent knowledge and there is an air of discipline I like to have around the place.” Cheltenham-born Cotterill hopes his local roots will help him connect with the City supporters. “I’m a West Country boy and I know what they are like down in this area,” he added. “Most of us have been brought up on rugby so they want you ‘up and at them’ a little bit, which is the West Country mentality. “But if we can pass the ball and pass it quickly, I’ll be delighted with that. And to get some clean sheets as well. “We’ve just got to start winning. I’ve heard contrasting reports on how they’ve played this season and we need to try and make sure we can get a bit of high tempo passing football into our game to get the crowd off their seat. “I think the club has a fantastic long-term plan, but without a short term there is no long term. Immediately the aim is to get away from the relegation places.” Supporters can view Cotterill’s press conference in full, as well as reaction from Vice-Chairman Jon Lansdown on City’s Official YouTube Channel BELOW. Not at all Lan, as soon as I heard him on the Radio B this morning, I was sold, good luck to the bloke, we are in one hell of a mess thanks to you know who...
He who shall not be named...... I find it weird how I didn't want Cotterill but im more excited about his appointment than I was SODs.....
The club has been in a big mess since GJ left, you cannot blame it all on SOD,the board has taken the club to the level it finds itself at present.
SOD takes blame for a lot of things. Anyway this isn't a thread to be depressing and bring Cotterill or the club down.....
Follow Alan Dicks you become a legend. Follow the route of Cooper and Jordan and fans will support you and some will admire you. Follow the route of Ward fans will respect you but some will hardly remember you. Follow the route of Osman and Pulis fans will hate you, stay away, protest and boycott against you.
Very clever words, you can almost sense the mans revision in to the state of our club, he obviously reads forums and has taken the majority fans views in to what needs to be done to bring things right. Its a list of fans widely held and loudly stated opinions. I'm fed up of words I need action now..
certainly said all the right things, good luck to the man, if he fails it wont be for lack of effort, gonna be interesting to see how he handles jet.could be fireworks there.
I was at a social event last saturday for a City fan with a terminal illness attended by a 100+ City fans raising cash for charity. Already they had the name of the next manager due to connections to a director. There appeared to be no enthusiasm for his appointment at all. He will have to win over fans with attractive football v kick and boot. And we have not all been brought up on rugby.
I'm backing Steve. Welcome to Bristol City - our club - good luck in the role and please help us sort out the mess.
He is by far a popular choice. He comes with negative vibes. He has been a dark Priest of negative unnattractive football. He has got years on the contract. He will have to EARN IT.
There is a banner outside the 3 Lions stating win us over, listen, no long ball football or something similar.
I would like it to be a FC. It has ceased to be. Ashton Gate Stadium stadium is not owned by the FC, and neither is the FC owned or even close to it by its customers/fans. The board? One does not even like football ..
I like the cut of his jib and he obviously said all the right thing as we expected. Let's hope he has the full backing of the board and can get the job done.
'I like the cut of his jib and he obviously said all the right thing as we expected' Inver - I thought the absolute opposite, hope you're right.
