In light of the recent rumoured 3rd centre-back transfer to fall through, many people on here seemed to start getting on NC's back. This really surprised me as I thought now, most people were on the same boat when it came to their views on the man. So, what really are people's views on the Chairman of Southampton Football Club? Does he have too much of an ego to make the right judgements and do the job properly or is he a very intelligent and shrewd businessman who always sees sense?
Spot on for the Saints. However no dis-respect to you but aren't these threads are becoming fairly repetitive regarding the Don?
Mixed - he does some really stupid decisions then makes some brilliant decisions so jury still out for me personally
Legend. His business approach to running the club will create a viable, stable long term future for the club. As nice as it is to have rich owners, this simply isn't possible. Clubs have to be self sufficient and financing and Cortese is helping to ensure this for us. Plus he has provided funds for transfers when the manager (both pardew and Adkins) has asked for it, but has never been held to ransom by greedy players or agents. While some of the decisions he sometimes make seem harsh, they are all nearly in the best interests of the club. There is no doubt he is well paid, but he has never given any indication he is just in it for himself
Can't really fault anything that he has done so far, and seems to be setting the club up very well for the future. Couldn't ask for more really!
He's been here two years and the jury is still out??? I hope you don't take this long making all your decisions!! Personally I think Cortese is great - I have no idea what else the bashers want him to do!
Presumably they want him to spend millions of pounds on new players, and let us fans in on every single piece of detail from inside the club. But I'm with you, and many others. I think he's great, absoloutely great.
Mostly intelligent with a slightly arrogant "swagger"... I hate the word swagger, for obvious reasons, but I couldn't think of another word to use instead...
Can't fault him. Yes, we may of missed out on a few signings because of the 'process' we go through when employing a new player, but if the player isn't right for the club then that's Cortese and Adkins choice to make, not ours. The man is a legend!
He seems to be running my club in a very good manner. We don't seem to get screwed over by bigger clubs an he has employed two managers who have both brought levels of success to the club. I'm loving what he's doing. The single most impressive thing for me is his ability to remain silent while discussions about players are doing the media rounds. He smacks of professionalism.
I cannot believe that people are judging NC on the basis of players we were rumoured to have been in for, and how the transfer process has been rumoured to have taken place, oh and the opinion of neil F***ing warnock!! Does noone remember the absolute carp spouted by the Boscombe chairman about our "alleged" offer of a job for Eddie Howe. NC does not conduct business in public, and everything about the player needs to be right before we go ahead. I cannot complain against any of his decisions, and I am 100% behind him and Nigel. For gods sake lets stop looking for problems and enjoy where we are and the continued progress we are making.
I agree, NC is probably the most astute businessman we have EVER had as chairman. As for the negative stuff, it's all based on rumours from people whose opinions I care nothing about. Anyone still doubting when the 5 year plan has come to fruition, please state your reasons when the time comes. Until then, just believe.
