That was a fantastic read, gives the public a real insight into Cortese and the way he works it might be in the sun but usually everything is taken so out of context, but I think Cortese in the long run has won the papers over.

Just show the ambition he has and the way he works and won't take NO **** FROM NOBODY! ha!

I found myself absolutely staggered while reading that piece. For all of our Saints supporting lives, we have had Southampton FC boardrooms which have been so unambitious that they were embarassed when Saints first knocked on the door of the elite league, and practically sighed with relief when it was just missed on two occasions in the early 1950's. They continued to lack ambition when Ted took Saints into Europe on a few occasions: and as Kevin Keegan has said, when Steve Moran had a bad back injury, He, Mick Channon and Lawrie asked the board to release money to buy a top striker in 1980-81 [Saints were top but finished seventh], the board is said to have answered... this is Southampton, and we don't do that. It was that kind of lack of ambition which made KK decide to leave, and later Lawrie decided he could do no more, within the confines of the Saints' boardroom's small mindedness.

So, having grown up with that attitude, I'm totally wiped out by The Don's totally opposite one. We also know that what Nicola says he wants to do either comes to pass, is is just yet to come to pass. These are not pipe dreams, I'm pretty damn sure he means it. So I have a peculiar personal situation because after a lifetime of wishing a Saints boardroom to have more ambition, I've encountered a Saints chairman with more ambition for the club than I've ever seriously considered.

And btw, I particularly love how he dealt with Chamberlain's transfer. But every bit of the article was a delight. Absolutely superb.

Strewth what an article...........Can any one doubt the mans ambition? Interesting comment about the crowd of 50000 though too! Is that a veiled hint? Nice to see he is prepared to get his hands dirty. He is still sore about the sale of chamberlain......but as the paper says he is no pushover. Now nobody can doubt the ambitions of the club........even if it is in the Sun or the daily fail.

Very good article. Especially pleased about the Chamberlain deal..I always had the feeling that we needed the money and it's good to know he would have liked to keep Chamberlain. You can see that he will never get us into financial trouble..we won't pay stupid wages in a 32,000 seater stadium and hint about a larger stadium (if required). Like his bit about wanting Newcastle in draw.

Great read and a great vision for Saints! who says we can't achieve champions league football? people outside of the southampton circle will laugh but what's the point if you haven't got ambition? welldone Nicola.

Yes, thanks for posting that link. We are so fortunate to have him at the helm.

Oh, and by way of comparison, and to see the gulf in ambition, have a butchers at the interview with Pompeys new owners, CSI. Then read NC's again and pinch yourself.

Saints are now a more interesting commodity for the papers, so Cortese can now do interviews more on his terms.

Still a fine line though as the media can smile in your face and stab you in the back in the same moment.

    Good interview though

Come on then if ya think your hard enough!!!

The mental pic created when NC tells of his meeting about the Oxo deal is brilliant. I bet the Gunners first impressions on that day were dashed pretty quick!!

On the stadium capacity front......Fill it regularly and see what NC does after that.

I know that interview has been around fo a little while now, but it's the first time I've watched it. I think PFC could have done a lot worse..! I can definitely see that those guys have their feet on the ground and a big task ahead of them. They realise they can't actually promise anything.

Compared to PFC, Saints are 10 or more years down the ambition road.
