Seriously forumites what do we make of this old boy??? Moved to ‘awwwwwwww bless, little’ Danny Skelton over the summer he has had one race for him. That was at Cheltenham, earlier in the month when a decent 2nd in a Listed 25 Furlong Handicap Hurdle. You could, if you wished, be somewhat critical of the ride Bridget Andrews gave Corrin Wood that day as she did seem to go ‘full pelt’ from a comparative early stage but the old boy did keep on well to be clear of some useful sorts. Was somewhat surprised to see him raised just a pound to a perch of 124 after this promising effort and I see he’s got a weekend entry over the Bridge at Chepstow in a £10,000 0-130 handicap. I had initially thought connections might have been a bit more ambitious than this with the 9YO but on reflection perhaps they are seeking a win, and a handicap rise, so that Corrin Wood can get into some of the classy, and valuable, 3 mile handicap hurdles later in the campaign. But that’s only guesswork. Alternatively, connections may later on in the season seek a return to the big ‘uns with an animal who has colossally fallen down the chasing perches – from a peak of 156 his last run, over fences, was at Aintree in May off 130. Judged on what he did earlier this month Corrin Wood’s move south seems to have benefitted him greatly and I think he’s an animal to watch very closely whatever connections opt to do with him. He may not prove capable of matching that 156 figure anymore but off marks, in both spheres, around 30 lbs lower than that expect Corrin Wood to return to the winners enclosure very promptly, maybe as early as Chepstow on Saturday. One to watch very closely, methinks, as connections have huge ‘room to manoeuvre’ re this one.
