I was speaking to friend of mine who works in "disputes and resolutions" and has been redeployed to the DWP along with ppl from HMRC to deal with the mass applications for Universal Credit.

600,000 in 9 days.

Earlier today there were 66,000 waiting to apply.

Every application is pretty much taken at face value which means no push for evidence such as payslips etc, but to cover their arse they make ppl aware that it is their responsibility to be accurate and provide the evidence, but DWP is proceeding with claims. She's fairly confident that if the situation improves with this virus, in about 6 months thousands will be investigated.
