Not sure I can fully answer this but will try a bit.

1. The people they are trying to test in this way (with the viral antigen test) , is the front line worker, who comes in contact with a Covid19 person and then feels a "bit iff" then self isolates for a week, taking them off the work force. They can be tested and told " you are positive you are off work for 2 weeks.. or Negative:- get back to work".
This also works for relatives of known Covid19 people, like 999s. It is very useful, but means frontline works will need to be tested regularly, as any teperature or cough or supertiredness may mean CoVid19 or it may not.

2. There is a tenet that if you have a viral infection and then naturally recover, the reason is that you have made antibodies to quell that infection. That is the reason you have got better. So the next time you get splattered by CoVid19 by someone , your antibodies rush to attack the virus before they multiple and you do not get sick again. It is the basis of vaccination (sort of natural vaccination). There are rumours from China that some people who have had it once are getting it a second time, which ruins the theory....a little bit. But there are reasons 1) They may not have had CoVid in the first place 2) even with vaccinations (such as flu) the protection in a few people is incomplete and some people get a mild dose.

It is becoming clearer and clearer to me, that we have to have the antibody test and contact tracing ( by the way possibly through the apps that are working already in S.Korea, Japan and Germany...why do we need to develop our own ) as soon as possible. And then we need to have a vaccine in place by the start of next year.
Thanks Beth. The critical point is that until we have an efficient and reliable test and a vaccine we are all making guesses of sorts, some educated and others based on little more than wishful thinking. Our life choices will depend on the balance between the need to earn money and how optimistic we are.

Those choices are forced choices. Whether you can wait months for financial help. How you interpretate lock down rules. If you cant work from home then go to work. Essential travel only. Stay at home etc etc etc

Like Beth said, we are probably nearer to 20,000 than further away. The government couldn't allow that figure published as they would be worried that their expert advice that they follow isn't all that expertised.

Anybody happen to know how many have died from seasonal flu this year?

Anybody happen to know how many frontline NHS staff sadly die each year as a result of contracting infections at work?

This is what you said....

I also don’t buy into this 20k amount being good and anything over the government will burn in hell. People forget the death toll in 2015 was 28k ( I believe). What if the final figure is 19,999 would the government be hero’s? Said before the are in a lose/lose situation..... however I have this sneaky feeling they might get away with this (if that’s the right thing to say).

All about the government, not the country.

Don't try and weasel your way out of this one, hold your hands up.

Sorry, I didn’t see this post and want to reply.

Firstly

I will never ‘weasel’ out of anything. I held my hands up last night and clarified what I was trying to say. Sadly for me when I don’t concentrate I make mistakes. If you don’t l believe what I say then tough luck. I don’t need to explain myself to you.

Secondly and most importantly you will not find a post of mine that hasn’t been supportive of my country. I have also championed the NHS.

Furthermore, I am supportive of the government because if they succeed we save lives, whereas you seem to not give a @@@@ about the lives, all you seem to be interested in is hoping the government fails so you can bitch about them.

Every day, whatever happens, you are moaning about the handling of this. Even when evidence is shown like that fab WHO article on PPE you turn a blind eye and don't accept it because it is supportive of what the government has been saying. From day one i said that if the government has made mistakes then that is for a later date. Now is not the time to criticise at every step. it’s about being sensible and obeying the guidelines.

You posted something recently which stuck in my mind…

What's expected of us is to not put others in unnecessary danger, isn't it? I'm happy to abide by this, but I'm certainly not sticking to the 'rules', which are daft.

Although contradictory the bit that stands out for me…

“But I'm certainly not sticking to the 'rules', which are daft”.

This tells me that you are not interested in others safety, because you’re ‘not sticking to the ‘rules’’.

Why is that? Because they are government rules and you don’t like them?

Also...
Your hatred for Boris blinds your judgment.
Boris, is a winner. He won Brexit, the election fight and more importantly the fight of his life.

I didn’t even see his speech yesterday as I spent the day in the garden drinking Rose (which by the way, was a very nice Languedoc for our wine fans). However what a fab speech and well done for naming the 2 nurses. Like my nurse friend, they probably won’t moan and will go back to doing a fab job. No, all the moaning comes from the usual lot who can't distinguish between politics and a human being.

your own words confirmed this the other day…

If there was a choice, I'd sooner Johnson had died.

Seriously think about it mate. Why would anyone need to say this? You are better than that. Thankfully I am so pleased that no-one on here ‘liked’ the post because you would have to seriously ask why?

I will also tell you something which I am sure you will hate… but once this virus is over I think Boris will be more popular than he is now. I know he’s popularity went up by 30% recently and apparently his warm words yesterday have resonated well with the public. people will think twice before knocking him because he has been there, seen it, done it.

I said from early on that this is something unprecedented and every country around the world has had its struggles in some way. Even Korea and Germany are now having problems. I also said that it is changing daily and people have to adapt to the situation… yes, that includes the government. They like others they have probably changed their minds as this unfolds

you said in the early days that a

lot of fuss” was being made and it “being over-exaggerated”. you compared this to “regular flu” and that regular flu was a bigger threat. I remember the post as you discussed having pneumonia twice.

My point is do you still believe that or like others have you changed your mind as this Pandemic worsens?

Until then I will wait for the inquiry and we can all bitch then.

Now I don't mind if you ZZZZZZZ my post as it's not just for you.

Once again to clarify to all posters, last night when I posted my wording came out wrong. It wasn't meant to sound that way and I confirmed that in the following post. :emoticon-0148-yes:
And I thought the politics thread was hard going!
