Cancelling football is one thing, you try to ban dog walking and there would be riots in the streets!
One problem - in August, you will only have 11 players left as the rest are out of contract - and 2 of those are keepers.
Can't see the final 9 games being played, the only real question to be answered is how do we deal with this unfinished season.
A few thoughts. Our players who are out of contract in the summer, are just a few of many hundreds who will be out of contract from other Clubs. If no football is going to be played from now until August or September, those players are not just going to walk into lucrative new jobs. If Lyle Taylor was dreaming of a big money move he'll have to think again, and Naby Sarr is not going to find another Club willing to pay half of what he's been getting for the last 5 years. Also, if a ball is not kicked for the next 6 months dozens of Clubs will go under, unless the Premier League doles out some of its uncounted riches. That bubble might also be burst by this crisis, in the longer term. This whole business could break the power that players and their agents have to demand ridiculous fees and wages. And not before time. Charlton's current problem is the transfer embargo. Now that Matt Southall is (more or less) out of the picture, HE Tahnoon Nimer has nobody else to blame if that embargo is not lifted by the EFL well in advance of the summer transfer window or the beginning of 'next' season. As far as I know all the EFL requires is proof that funds exist. That sounds like a pretty simple request. If Nimer cannot supply that proof, then I cannot see how he can pay Roland Duchatelet for the land & assets of Charlton Athletic either. The antics of Matt Southall are a distraction and an irritation compared to the possibility that Nimer has no money. If he cannot satisfy the EFL or fulfil his obligation to pay Duchatelet £50 million by the summer, then nobody knows what will happen. The land and assets will still belong to Roland, but what of the £1 piece of paper that is CAFC? We were told there is enough reserve money available to run the Club until the end of 2020. Frankly, bearing in mind what else Charlton fans have been told in the last few months, and this crisis which has now reduced income to zero, that cannot be true any longer (if it ever was). I suppose the best we can hope for if Nimer turns out to be potless (or does walk away) is some kind of rescue package arranged by administrators or receivers. This may well involve the Club renting back the Valley as short term tenants of Mr Duchalelet, or finding a ground to share - a second exile - or third exile if you include Catford in 1924. In short, if Nimer is a fraud then Charlton's future will probably pan out to be something between what happened to Bolton (best case) and Bury (worst case). There is no way I can see how we could remain in the Championship beyond this summer. But I think we will not be the only football Club unable to participate in the same league next year (even if we are the most high profile). The EFL could have dozens of Clubs in financial crisis on its hands at once, instead of just one or two. The integrity of the leagues will be under massive threat. The football authorities may have to relax their rules, or not have any leagues left to oversee. Coronavirus could be the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to the sorry state of English League football. And not just football either of course. Many other industries that have become brittle and sick because of the economic conditions and lack of strong government in the last 40 odd years may be decimated. Ultimately some good may come of it all, but not before there is a huge amount of suffering.
Top post, Lardi, showing that if Nimer is potless there is no solution as long as Douchatelet owns the assets. Adminstration is not a new beginning. Douchebag is still sitting pretty, able to do whatever he likes, and who knows what that may be. The EFL will presumably be sitting twiddling their thumbs taking zero responsibility.
Yes and No …. if Nimer can not provide proof of funds then the EFL's provisional approval of the transfer of CAFC to ESI will surely be withdrawn and ownership of Charlton will have to be transferred back to the Belgian... he will then be in the same position as he was in back in December.
I hope this is the case, because the other alternatives are even worse, but it depends whether or not the takeover is fait accompli. If the club does go back to Belgium the state of the world economy might give him an excuse to drop the price and save face.
The transfer ban was in effect because all of the EFL's requirements were not met in full, so the transfer of CAFC can not be finalised until the EFL's requirements are met! It was the source of Nimer's funds that the EFL were not happy about.
I’m working on the assumption that Nimer will flee the scene this summer ...like Mark Hulyer up the Thames on his speedboat.
The Belgian retained a Power of Attorney over CAFC... I wonder if he knew all along that Southall & Nimer were dodgy?
Will he be given that long? Dodger gives him 2 weeks to come up with the readies, although I'm not clear whether he means proof of funds to the EFL or rent money for the landlord.
I know that the fan you mention has spoken to other people around the club (employees/ execs) , who are adamant that Nimer is not better than Southall.
The wording of the agreement looks very much as though he did. Anything over a certain value had to have a steel plate bolted on to the effect that it was the property of Straprix.
The playing side of the football club is worth f*ck all ! 75% plus of the squad is out of contract this summer, and we have 5/6 loans. The only two assets are the stadium & the training ground ...and possibly Dillon Phillips
