Nobody would accuse The Sun of being populist, would they? :emoticon-0104-surpr

They're having a go at Boris this morning for following SAGE advice and being cautious about easing lockdown rules, rather than setting us all free next week - because 'only' 373 people died of COVID19 on Sunday.

It's no bad thing the PM listens to his scientists (who know what they're talking about) more than he listens to Trevor Kavanagh.

A cynical rag, the mouthpiece for the Dirty Digger.
Just another section of the press which expresses the views of a proprietor who doesn't pay his taxes in this country.

Ever since the Hillsborough disaster I have given that rag a wide birth. Scummy newspaper that I wouldn't even wrap my chips in.

Agreed, but that is two too many. What if they passed away from this?

I think the positive test rate of almost zero among thousands of Premier League players and Club staff members is not entirely down to good discipline and rigorous testing.

I believe we would find, if we cared to inquire, that many players and others at Premier League and Championship level have been vaccinated.

I think the public are being mugged off regarding vaccinations.

The tabloids were quick to whip up some outrage because Gary Glitter has had a vaccination in jail.
But they aren't so keen to tell people who else is getting their jabs.

Elite sportspeople, and those who work in the elite sports industry.
Probably the wealthy and powerful in all other walks of life as well, and those who work for them.

If you know the right people, a nod and a wink is all you need to jump the queue.
    It isn't right.
But it's the way things are done - here in the UK more than anywhere else I wouldn't be surprised.

Listening to a phone-in on LBC yesterday about why BAME aren't taking up the vaccinations was quite interesting. Distrust came up quite a lot, but there are also evangelical church leaders who are giving out leaflets against it, and ordering their flock not to take it. They've interpreted something in Revelations apparently. Social media groups as well of course. One black man who has had the jab, but can't persuade his wife to, said he would not walk into a room of his peers and say he'd had it because they would all make fun of him.

At my local medical centre they do have a “cancellation list” where rather than waste the vaccine, where people don’t attend for whatever reason , they offer it to people that can get to the centre at short notice - I hasten to add the first people that were offered this service were key workers , the police , firemen etc etc . I think it’s an extremely good idea -less wastage and more people vaccinated :emoticon-0148-yes:

    I'm sorry to hear that.
Church leaders like that give all similar folk a bad name.
Not much integration going on in society either, when ethnic communities go against scientific advice given for the benefit of all of us.

Makes me wonder sometimes if automatic mistrust and being an 'outsider' are too much part of some people's identity.
As though any kind of cooperation with the outside world will diminish them in some way.
If they won't adapt a little even to something that will save many lives in their communities, there is little hope for future lessening of misunderstandings and prejudice.

No problem with that at all @Smudger603

I was recently offered a vaccination though by a relative of a mate, who works for a Championship Club recently relegated from the Premier League. The vaccination would have been given at the Club's training ground.

I politely declined, and was surprised to have been offered this.
Can't say more, as I don't want anybody getting into trouble.
Maybe they too had a surplus of vaccines available, and were trying to use them up rather than let them go to waste.

I’m on the cancellation list and will take up the offer should it occur - simply because my wife works for the NHS and although she’s had the the vaccine it doesn’t stop her bringing the virus home

Covid-19: Travellers face £1,750 cost for England quarantine hotels

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55995645

Travellers having to stay in quarantine hotels in England will be charged £1,750 for their stay, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced.
The measures apply to UK and Irish residents returning from 33 so-called red list countries.
Those who fail to quarantine in a government sanctioned-hotel face fines of up to £10,000, Mr Hancock said.
And those who lie on their passenger locator forms about visiting a red list country
face up to 10 years in jail.

<laugh> Pull the other one Hancock

We've just let a teenage Neo-Nazi terrorist off with a slapped wrist, as well as the sad gits who send death threats to people.
As if we're going to lock somebody up for fibbing on a form at an airport.

Isn't using the words 'holiday' and the word 'walking' a paradox ?
