Boris Johnson says closing the UK's borders to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus variants is "not practical". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55921150 First up - nobody was saying that UK borders should be sealed to everything. Obviously medicines and other freight (food etc.) should keep flowing. But there is NO excuse for social media influencers, sun tanned slebs, or other tourists to just be swanning around the world then popping back home on a whim and spreading their germs around. Secondly - despite all the tough talk about making all incoming travellers isolate in hotels for 10 days, this is still not happening. What's more, NO date has been given for when it will begin happening. Meanwhile, the South African variant of COVID19 (and other variants) are now established in the UK. The stable door not even closed yet, long after the horse has bolted. Goodbye horse... And 110,000 people have died.
Bromley's Covid figures have started shooting up again after being in sharp decline for a while. No idea why.
EVERY time they implement something, it is ALWAYS in a few days time. Make the f****** announcement and make it from immediate effect.
I was waiting for a bus into Bromley 45 minutes ago. Opposite was a police van with around 4 TFL staff waiting for buses to pull up. I said to one of them "have you now got the powers to eject these f****** who are not wearing coverings?" He replied "yes, that is why we have the police with us". I thanked him and wished him a good day, after I said this was 10 months too late. He returned with a knowing smile.
The Shadow Attourney General (mate of Tony Blair ) wins the Heartless Bastid Award today He's said that the Coronavirus Pandemic is "the gift that keeps on giving" because it's generating lots of work and profit for lawyers. 112,000 dead folk and their loved ones might dare to disagree.
Walking through Bromley yesterday I passed a takeaway/restaurant that was open. However, my eyes popped out when I saw the guy beavering away cleaning the stove/grill WITHOUT a face covering
NHS staff in some places are facing torrents of abuse from covid deniers. They are gathering in crowds outside some hospitals chanting COVID IS A HOAX, and have even tried to remove critically ill patients from wards. There have also been threats of vile things. Believing lies is like a disease in itself, and has infected parts of society, although America is worse because they have had a President for 4 years who has encouraged it. It seems no different to being radicalised.
How can this even be allowed? These are not legitimate demonstrations, and crowds are not allowed to gather anyway, for whatever reason. Police should turn water cannons on them, spray them with smart water and arrest them later. The army should guard hospitals from these nutters if necessary.
Lord Falconer apologises for calling Covid a 'gift that keeps on giving' for lawyers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-55970601 One thing you can tell from this story - Charlie Falconer hasn't lost anybody to this pandemic that he gives a rat's arse about. Never mind being "careful with our words" Mr Miliband. Decent people don't even think about COVID19 in those terms. For me this is as nasty as that "good day to bury bad news" email after 9/11. Spin doctor Jo Moore at least had the decency to resign over that, once it was exposed. And this isn't a twist on political correctness. Lord Falconer didn't accidentally say "coloured" instead of black, or "chairman" instead of chairperson. He indulged in the kind of amoral complacency that typifies the ruling elite. Despite Ed Miliband's bleating on his behalf, Falconer obviously thinks in those terms. And so casually, that it did not even occur to him at the time that he was being anything other than mildly witty.
Dorks of the Day - Muppet mountain campers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-55970536 Breaking rules and being utterly brainless, camping out in February. Now they've ruined the life of a rescue worker. Why do some absolute morons think they can just go out and do any dangerous activity they like, and if they get into a spot of trouble somebody will come along and bail them out? These two should be locked up - and made to pay for their rescuer's medical treatment. Not slapped on the wrist with £200 fines.
I don't know about you chaps, but I'm not impressed at all by the behaviour of these new Online fashion retail giants that have suddenly popped up over the last few years. Companies we only know from brightly lit posters, who seem now to have a stranglehold on the entire industry... Boohoo tells suppliers not to subcontract, raising job fears https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55974075 This particular company now has massive influence over the Leicester clothing sweat-shop factories. Others have bought up the names and logos of high street brands that have closed hundreds of shops, but only for online use. So the shops are all lost and none of the jobs they provided have been saved. They are profiting hugely from the pandemic. It is right that the Government is looking into hitting them with big taxes, to make them pay their share towards rebuilding this country after Coronavirus. It had better happen, and I think it will. The treasury needs to find hundreds of billions, and these companies are swimming in cash right now that they have done very little to earn.
