It would have to be an EXTREME case before I'd understand people's reasons for boarding an aeroplane.

    This is a sad story.
An unpleasant indicator (apparently) of how much public trust in the Government and other authorities has been soured.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55579680

This woman, who has no connection to the Government, has been abused online for trying to re-start the clap for carers.
As far as I can tell, the abuse has been based on the wrong belief that her initiative is really PR stunt and she is colluding with the Government.
Bitterness and hatred towards politicians is being aimed at her as well.

Also I'm dismayed to read that some NHS workers have turned down this gesture of support, saying (rather curtly in my view) that they would rather people just follow the rules. Feels as if they're saying people treat the clapping as a conscience relieving exercise, and a licence to flout rules at other times. Or only think about carers for that five minutes, then not spare them a thought for the rest of the week.

The sense of unity (Dunkik spirit, if you will) that we saw in March & April really seems to have gone.
    Very disheartening.

Tables updated on the first post on page 1.

Very grim viewing for the UK.
We and Germany have the highest 24 hour fatality rates by a large margin.
But our 24 hour infection rate is far and away the highest in Europe.
Over 50,000 per day for 10 days straight.
That's over half a million new cases confirmed in just a week and a half.

Hospital admission rates - already at record highs - are likely to go upwards still further.
They follow the trend of infections, with a lag of about 7 to 10 days.

wifey is a teacher. i wouldnt want her going in with the new strain. pre xmas, there were more kids isolating than in class. some kids were in class when wifey would get a call saying the kid needs to go home to isolate - probably not want you wanna hear when working.

i think teachers were asked to do the testing on the kids but the unions have kicked up a fuss. cant say i blame them.

Major incident declared in London due to pressure on hospitals - now the anti mask/vac people might listen? But I doubt it

Incident called by London Mayor Sadiq Khan... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55588163

COVID deniers and anti-lockdown & anti-mask morons should be registered and go to the back of any lists for vaccination.
Of course if they have the courage of their stupid convictions they won't want the vaccine anyway.
Which is fine by the rest of us I think. More of it to go around for decent, selfless folk.

    Bloody hell.

Over 1,300 Coronavirus fatalities in the last 24 hours.
    And over 68,000 positive tests.

Thank God - and all the scientists involved - that a third vaccine was approved today.
EVERY effort must now go into vaccinating as many people as possible.

And superhuman efforts must go into preventing the NHS from collapsing over the next few weeks.

What is all the fuss about these two women who drove 5 miles so they could exercise in a more scenic place, and also took flasks of tea with them?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-55594244

The rules say exercise should be LOCAL.
Driving 5 miles is not local.
And who needs to take flasks of tea out for exercise?
Derbyshire Police were right - what they were doing was not in the spirit of the lockdown.

    They broke the rules.
Not intentionally, fair enough. But they should be grown up enough to acknowledge they got it wrong, and just pay the fines in the spirit of solidarity with all our efforts to cooperate in our struggle against the virus.

If we're going to have a silly media row and challenges to fines and lambasting of the Police every time some thoughtless or devious person bends or stretches the rules, why bother having any rules at all?
Taking the attitude that the Police ought to be concentrating on serious rule breaches like raves and parties is understandable, but the logical leap from that is that it's OK for everyone else to be slack with the rules in many kinds of small ways. That 'minor' rule breaches should go unpunished.

If we take that attitude, the virus will just carry on spreading.

They should have just given them a clip round the ear.

    Coronavirus 1, rule followers 0

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-55547302

    Ms Allen said:
"We are happy to hear that Derbyshire Police have been told to not be so heavy handed with fines and return to the Four E's they were originally doing."
"We are yet to hear anything regarding our fine but
if we have managed to save somebody the worry of going for a walk and fearing they would be fined then we have done what we set out to do."

What you have managed to do Ms Allen, is send a message that anyone can do whatever they like.
And when the Police try to do their job, they'll be slapped down by the snowflake media.

I wash my hands of it (if you'll pardon the expression).
    Folks, please yourselves.
Do what you like. Take your chances.
Stick two fingers up at the Police and NHS workers and all the other 'heroes'. They are truly wasting their time.

I admire your tenacity Mr Hancock, but you're wasting your breath.

'The rules' are whatever people want them to be.
Folks are asking for clarification now, so they have a watertight case either way.
The spirit of the rules means nothing anymore.

Orpington High street - almost everyone wearing a face covering; move out a mile, lots of joggers and walkers - hardly anyone wearing a face covering.

The police should be given the power to shoot joggers on sight, shoot to kill.
