Plod could have been of more use on the buses and trains and let the female babble on. Another own goal.
It's not the fault of the Police. Every politician and his dog (and Chief Constables) like to come on TV or radio and tell us what the Police are going to do next. Hand out more fines for this, crack down on that... My understanding was the Police were over-stretched before the Pandemic. So what are they supposed to do?
I am finding it hard to understand why they seem so badly trained. The Met used to be known for quiet authority, they seem to be all over the place these days.
I have lost sympathy with Police claims of under-manning given the number of diversity-related appointments being made up and down the country, many of htem on a good deal more than the average PC. Some of that money - quite a lot of it, actually - could more usefully be spent on recruiting and training front-line Policemen. Recruitment these days tends to be from University graduates, it would be better if they reverted to recruiting ex-army types who know how to give and receive orders.
This week West Midlands were advertising a "belonging" post, deputy department manager, to work with a team and a salary of aboiut £60k. That implies there is a person above the advertised post and a good many below it. The job is to make sure that all employees feel they "belong". I would like to know the aggregate of salaries and benefits that this team drains from the West Midlands fund. In Sussex recently there was an advert to join the diversity team for about £55k. Sussex Police is notoriously undermanned in terms of Police on the streets. When it is also considered that there is a vast army of Police dedicated to monitoring social media and acting against perople that cause offence (the money wasted in the action against a former police officer in Hull who took them to Court to clear his name after a dispute about a social media post is a good example), the issue is not a lack of funding but the misuse of funds to satisfy a political agenda.
A good friend of mine quit last year after being prosecuted for an on-duty incident (he was involved in a crash during a high-speed operation). He was acquitted but felt betrayed by his superiors. He now earns more as a train controller for Network rail.
Just been out for my daily exercise. My mask is now on even outside. Sadly - and for some reason normally reasonable posters on here seem determined to turn a blind eye to this - a certain section of the community in London are continuing to walk into food stores not wearing masks. On the same day 1,000 died from Coronavirus and another 62,000 went down twith the disease, this section of the London community are more determined than ever to prove how pig thick and ignorant they are. Why doesn’t everybody call them out for what they are ? They are putting everyone’s health at risk.
@Clb74 would agree with me that you could bore her into submission with one of your very long rambles ....
My sister-in-law flew to Barbados a week ago. She had to get tested before she went (£150), then tested again when she got there, and quarantined for 5 days.
