http://mobile.pafc.co.uk/runtime/plymouth/article?articleId=2518539 What does this mean for Albion .... would rather we shared with them than a team from Cornwall !
Oye you!!!! Half our supporters are from Cornwall. If this means cash for Argyle then can't see the problem as long as they don't rip up our pitch. Less running costs for the ground means more money for the squad or the wage back payments. I am not sure we are in any position to be that choosey whose bed we get into at the moment.
More than half - and we can play rugby too! Plus Argyle was founded by two Cornishmen. Have you touched a nerve Gat or not! Anyway I like Plymouth. It is only by a geological freak that the Tamar doesn't flow into the Plym and therefore make Plymouth part of Cornwall. Now a funny story..... Many years ago I was watching a combined Cornwall/Devon side play rugby against Fiji at Redruth. There was an almighty high kick from the Fijians (even higher than Hoof Heathcote). A Cornwall/Devon player positioned himself perfectly to catch the descending ball but alas it went through his hands hit him on the head and the Fijians went over for a try. An old boy next to me, 80 if he was a day said "Bet that ****'s from Devon".
Well I'm not from Cornwall being Plymouth born and bred but I do recognise that without you and your compatriots we would have sunk years ago.
would this be classed as extra income? Be interesting to know whether it would count towards the wage cap etc.
Who cares greenarmy. Money is money at the moment whatever it goes towards. He said 50% of extra for the wages so presumably that means everything extra from whatever source. The sooner all the outstanding is paid the better for me.
While I agree that we have many supporters who are from Cornwall, I constantly hear "Keep Cornwall for the Cornish", apparently only when it suits them ! My concern are for the Plymouth Rugby teams, Plymouth Albion, Devonport Services to name but two ! The monies that the pitch sharing generates will go to pay off the staff quicker but this still doesn't make it right !
The prospect of the ground share is only on a "might be" bases so nothing is definate just yet. However, as I understand it they may get promoted and their ground would not allow them to take the promotion given it's capacity. Their new ground is not finished and may not be on time so why can't we help out another local team and make a bit of dosh for ourselves. Would it be better if we said no and they had nowhere else to go and lost out?
Don't see why it should be at their expense Gat. If a premiership team played just up the road for a short period of time and it clashed with an Argyle game would you desert Argyle and go there? Why should it affect Albion then in the same way. Surely if you are a supporter of Albion then you will go and still watch Albion. Or, are rugby fans a little more selctive and fickle with their support than us.
How would a lot of scrums effect the pitch and the way that it's been made.........I assume with football in mind..........it's not as if we can ask the firm that laid it to check it out for us !!!
theres always been an argument for rugby giving the pitch no worse a time as football in terms of turfing it up. Ive played rugby in Wiltshire for the last 4 years, lovely pitch that a grant had bought showed no BIG signs of damage until summer, and thats with 5 age groups playing fortnightly on it. I would be up for pirates playing at hp for the funds that it would raise, but for plymouth albion of course it will be a negative...floaters are always going to watch a team out of their region in the top flight r/t their home city in the league below, but a compensation package is being agreed so it can't be too big a deal and im a bath rugby fan, so always happy to have a game a season up the road!
I expect my concern is regarding the more covered type of stadium.........with a roof perhaps............where the scrum can move the turf as if it was a carpet........crumpling it up because of poor root growth..............we wouldn't want to spoil the surface for our teams silky passing skills would we !!!
