Why oh why do we never leave anyone up the field??

Sterling in particular, he is very short but very rapid, leave him up top!!! What good does it do when he is back defending.

I thought exactly the same. Whenever the ball was cleared from our box tonight it was picked up by the opposition and we were on the back foot again.

It's cos minger hasn't a hope of either catching it or then finding him

It's very rare to score from the scenario so not many teams leave someone up

Its a good point, if u leave someone like Sterling up front, they are bound to leave one of the defenders back defending, good tactic against the likes of chelsea, who arent blessed with pace but are a big team

He did, including the one at the end when we really needed him to.

    Said it all season.

It's not even about Mig catching and distributing, it's about when we head one clear, having someone that might put the opposition defender under some pressure to then go back to their keeper allowing us to push out, rather than just giving them time to get it under control and lumping it back into the box.

It does tend to come back at us, we need some energy on the edge of the box to push players backwards in these situations.

They just leave a full back back and such so it won't matter

That's different to one up though... You can do what you say with two lads breaking from edge of box hard and fast

not really, if your playing against Sterling, u are gonna need at least two, one big and then one fast

My issue is why we've suddenly decided that taking pot shots from outside the area is a good idea instead of trying to find a way through into the box. We've only got one really tricky player up top now in Sterling, the rest are too static and don't move around enough to pull defenders around, create gaps for us to thread the needle and create side foot and tap in chances. Who is training them to shoot from so far out with such regularity all of a sudden?? It'd be fine if we had someone with a good enough boot to really put the laces through it but Coutinho and Henderson don't do it.
