Our maths teacher, Mr Radford (RIP) took half of the 6th form to the Dug Out one night. We had only been in the place 5 minutes when a very fit young lady got up on a table and took a lot of her clothes off, we had a great time....!

Spent a lot of my 6th form at The Locarno (New Bristol Centre), clubbing and also gigs, got to know one of the part owners later when it became that posher cabaret style club that didn't last long (that I can't remember the name of). Saw The Damned, The Skids, The Ruts, The Undertones and more there, plus loads at The Colston Hall.... Spent some of my youth watching bands (one in particular) in the Crown Cellar Bar under the Rummer. My mate's friend played drums for a band called The Apartment who had a bit of air time on the John Peel Show - Emil's claim to fame was playing drums for 3 numbers with The Damned at The Locarno when Rat Scabies passed out and fell off the stool... Used to eat in the Mauretania when it was the restaurant with the bloke playing the piano. Later once helped to carry out a completely comatose Gary Owers out of the club one Saturday evening....!!!
I was late to the live music scene. I reluctantly attended clubs to get a drink after 11pm. I did like the Alexander Club at Richmond Place though - members only in the 1980's and you could wear jeans and trainers!
Blimey Wiz, you on a mission tonight...?! Never realised that the Corn Exchange was that big a music venue...
Tiffany's as well.... used to go to Heavy Metal night on a Tuesday, won the cardboard out band competition (I was on drums) one night when Andy Fox was the DJ (also saw his band Spitfire's first gig at The Stonehouse)... EDIT:- just googled him, seems to be doing ok http://www.zoominfo.com/p/Andy-Fox/179553230
Pretty much - if I remember right, it was at the end of the M32 on the other side of the road to the Spectrum building but, they have changed the road lay out so massively, its difficult to put my finger on it exactly....
used to play some great music at the bamboo, also very early seventies and Monday nights at the Locarno, then weekends at the hawthorns hotel and the stage door. the picture of the mods takes me back to my old man banning me from going to Weston one bank holiday Monday because of some misdemeanor on my part, well obviously went anyway, only for my photo to appear on page 2 of the post the following day, boy did the sh@t hit the fan that night.
Me & college mates from Weston Tech used to do the Tuesday thing at Tiffany's on the Downs. Its where I first heard a band called Led Zeplin. It was also my introduction to wild, dancing women - me and my classmates all. We nearly came to grief on a deceptive corner up near the Suspension Bridge in my mate's well-loaded Mini. Ah, sweet memories ! Funny how life changes as you get older This site has some interesting stuff from way back when… https://www.facebook.com/groups/the...ks=10153710543320218¬if_t=group_highlights
Some great memories there. Went to the Dug Out several times along with Tiffanys and The Alex Club as per BCFCREDANDWHITES post. Never been a club sort of person, mainly because I couldn't stand the crap music. It was only ever about carrying on drinking when the pubs were closed...
Hey BRR - I was at Weston Tech too - when were you there? I was there in 83/84. Hated every second of it. Dump.
I was a regular at the Corn Exchange Tuesday Chinese R&B and Jazz Club ( the 'Chinese' bit was totally irrelevant!) Saw Bo Diddley, Long John Baldry, Yardbirds. Wonderful wild nights with loud loud pulsating Blues & R&B. Also saw 'Little' Stevie Wonder and Ike and Tina Turner @ Locarno.
I can remember seeing Stony Garnet up there. He did a great Rolling Stones impression. He still comes in the Dolman with his red hat from when he applied to be Mayor
