According to the Daily Fail, our versatile Croatian defender seems to be talking up a move in the January window, having lost his place to Kyle Walker. They suggest that he feels that he needs to be playing, to ensure his place in the Croatian national side's squad for the European Championship in the summer. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2067114/Vedran-Corluka-eyes-Spurs-exit.html? Given his injury problems this season, you'd have thought that he'd have tried to prove himself before throwing in the towel, really. Disappointing, if it's true. If he does go, then who would you like to see brought in to replace him? It's a tricky one for me, as we'd basically be buying a squad player. Could this move unsettle Kranjcar, who's in a similar position? He's also suffered injury problems this season and was in the first team prior to them.
I'd say it's pretty much out of the question selling Charlie in January. He'll get plenty of games when fit and there'd be little point in us getting a replacement until we know if Naughton is up to it.
Like SF, I can't see us selling in January. Corluka played for Croatia in the qualifiers, so I'm sure he'll be in their squad no problem. I could easily imagine Corluka leaving in the summer though.
Players likely to leave in January: Pavluychenko, Gomes Note how short that list is. Now compare it to the number of players the Mail or CaughtOffside say are leaving.
I normally wouldn't pay attention to either of them Croydon, but this story does appear to have quotes from the player. I'd suggest that Dos Santos is also on the likely-to-leave list.
There are quotes and I think Corluka wants out, but just like Modric I think we will say 'no' ATM. By all means let him go in the summer, as we can get in a replacement. His fears about not playing in 2012 are surely groundless, he will be there if he's fit. He'll play on Wednesday if fit, and he'll have plenty of game time coming up.
He won't be allowed to go in Jan. Summer we'll have Naughton and Smith back so there'll be plenty of cover for Walker if Charlie moves on then. Shame really as I think he's a good defender, just not a modern day full back.
I really rate Corluka - think he's technically very good and possibly under-rated by some. I honestly wouldn't have minded seeing him come on for Walker on Saturday as Walker didn't seem to be as with-it as usual. However, if we have more fit CBs back isn't there a very good argument that Kaboul is possibly the second-best right-back at the club? I'd still be very surprised if we sold Charlie in Jan. He's good mates with Modric as well, isn't he?
To be honest we have to say no until the summer as we have no real proven cover at RB.He even scored in one of the Croatian qualifiers so his place shouldn't really be in doubt. As GH10 says he'll get plenty of game time if fit in the cup competitions. We could play Kaboul there but then that just breaks up our CB partnership.
He didn't make the bench against West Brom or Villa, nor Croatia's 2nd leg against Turkey, despite scoring in the 1st leg. He might be injured again.
Oh well ,if he can't accept the situation at a top club, ie. big squad, player rotation, competition for places etc, wave him off.
Probably because they've got too much power now and they'll have agents in their ear talking up a move, King.
Corluka wasn't dropped for the second Croatian play-off game, he was suspended. He would have been on the bench v WBA but was ill. If he's fit he's in our 18, and in the Croatian 18 too, so there's no need for him to leave in January, and I can't see us letting him go.
Didn't realise that he was suspended, but I also didn't say that he was dropped or injured. I assumed that he was injured, as he wasn't even on the bench and was missing from our next two squads, too. Presumably Bassong was preferred to him for the bench for the Villa game though, so his place in the 18 looks uncertain.
