So the other day there were gasps aplenty when Xavi made it through a game with a 100% pass success rate.

According to Squawka, our Jack managed 98% - 52/53 on Saturday against Wet Hoof in the wind and rain.

So, he's clearly only 2% worse.

What a star! Hope he improves, though.

Obviously needs to improve before being considered for an England call up...needs to become a second or third choice player with top six team with a 50% success rate like Cleverley, Parker, Milner etc etc

I'm in no way suggesting players give a massive hoot about stats, but sometimes I wish Cork & Morgan would look for that potential killer pass a bit more often.
I know it's a lot easier up in the stands and on tv to see those passes but a couple of times a game the odd pass goes begging in favour of holding possession and against the sides that sit back I think we need to take a few more high tariff passes on to break them down.
Still that is an awesome stat and just goes to show what a great game he had Saturday and all games this season.

I thought he was awesome in the championship but must confess to being surprised from the impact his absence had on the team at the start of the season.

His passing was excellent against West Ham but obviously you have to go by the averages per game. Xavi averages 95.2% per game. It's pretty silly to be comparing Cork to Xavi.

    Saints on average this season:
    Guly 86.4%
    Steven Davis 85.2%
    Schneiderlin 84.6%
    Ward-Prowse 84.6%
    Cork 83.6%

Saints hero - I see Corky and Snidders job not to try and make the killer pass but to either carry it out of defence or win the ball back and then pass it to someone who can deliver the killer pass like Gaston, Lallana or Rickie.

Please tell me that you didn't think I was really arguing that Corky is 2% worse than Xavi!

Guly's average is only that high because he's barely played.

Of course not, Jack is at least 50-60% better.

Shows how well Davis' form has picked up. There was that 5 or 6 game spell where we were all shouting for him to be dropped when he was giving the ball away all the time. West Brom being the 'peak' of his slump (<that looks wrong but hey-ho)

    Fair play to the lad

He hit 50 passes and 80 of them found a team mate.

He's had 7 starts. It's not that much but it's enough to include him in the list. His passing completion would be higher anyway if he wasn't almost exclusively used on the flanks where there's less angles to complete a pass.

Let's be fair to the guy, passing/retaining possession is the one thing that Guly at all levels has done well for us.

Yep, he's frustrating because he's described as a 'forward', yet just can't hit a barn door with his finishing; and he's woeful at defending usually standing too far off if he's tracked back to begin with. That said, his passing and ball retention is the one thing that's seen him come this far with us on the journey, and for that we should probably applaud him.

Overall though, yep he plays in an area we definitely need greater competition for places in come the summer. (Coutinho would have been nice in Jan!)

Most of them were at the start of the season when we were crap and playing good teams. Oh and against Stoke where he was immense. He will definitely score a goal this season.

There are a number of factors to be considered. Guly generally only plays for a few minutes and isn't affected by fatigue. Also he's often been brought on when we're hanging onto a lead and playing simple passes. While there aren't as many passing options out wide, you also attempt far fewer passes than you would as a central player, and there's always the simple option inside or to the full back. He'd take the simple option more often than not, because he doesn't really have the pace to take players on. I'm not Guly-bashing or anything, but I don't think it's fair to compare him to players who regularly play for 90 minutes and are more involved in playmaking.
