Dead... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-63070138 Stars including Michelle Pfeiffer and Snoop Dogg have been paying tribute to the US rapper Coolio who has died at the age of 59. He was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend's LA house, his manager Jarez Posey told US media. Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, won a Grammy for the 1995 track Gangsta's Paradise, which led the soundtrack for Dangerous Minds.
I know three of his songs very well. True he never matched the heights of "Gangsta's Paradise" but thats quite a high benchmark. I remember in that summer of 1995 you couldnt escape that ****ing song. The only songs I remember being just as impossible to avoid are Wannabe by the Spice Girls, Love is all around by Wet Wet Wet and Where is the love by the Black Eyed Peas.
Who is? I only hold Biggie, the guys from Wu Tang, Eminem and the old skool Deathrow guys (Dre, Snoop etc) in that bracket. EDIT: And Cube of course
Aww come on, Doggystyle and Dre's Chronic album (Which Snoop played a major role in) are classic records
I know, im not suggesting for one second that Coolio is on a par with them. Just that in the field of rap, those are who I regard as the legends, Pac, Biggie, Wu Tang, Eminem, Dre, Snoop and Cube
his rapping aint up to snuff with the flow of Biggie and Em, or the heart of Pac, but without Dre, there'd have been no NWA, no Deathrow Records, No Eminem.....the guy is a legend in the field
