Skysports.com understands Sunderland youngster Jordan Cook has agreed a new deal at the club.

The promising striker, who can also operate on either flank, has been handed a one-year extension at the Stadium of Light.

Cook is highly regarded by the coaching staff on Wearside and was on the fringes of Steve Bruce's first-team squad last season.

He made three substitute appearances for the Black Cats last term and also spent a spell out on loan with Walsall, where he scored once in eight appearances.

Cook suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in September 2009 but battled his way back to full fitness.

Just over 12 months later he was called into first-team squad and made his senior debut in the Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United.

But will he be sent out on loan, along with Noble. It's gonna be hard for the young lads to get into the team this season, unless the dreaded training ground mauler strikes again.

Both JC and JC are cracking young talents, however, Jack Colback was one of the most accomplished young kids i have seen come through the Academy and went on to Captain a very useful Reserves team.

Unless he is given an opportunity to break into the first team soon, i do feel he will be passed over or move on to a lesser team and never realise his full potential, move over Cattermole the saviour JC is here.

I remember seeing Cook coming on a sub v Manchester Utd for his first apperance. He wasn't on for long but it looked like he had a hell of a lot of flair.

What he said. With the form he was in at the end of last season, he should command a place in the starting 11

Not sure on Colback - but for only one reason - he looked good when the entire team were terrible - in which case if the team plays really well what if he looks average? He was in a no lose situation when he played last season - the fans saw a new lad come through from the kids and will give him time no matter what - don't get me wrong I like what I've seen of him but I still haven't seen enough to put him in the side week in week out.
